I have one, a good friend of mine gave it to me when I bought my previous bike. when i traded it in for the Nomad I took it off and transfered it over. Figured it brought me good luck the last 8 years so why not move it to the nomad and keep the trend going.

I have received two bells as gifts. I put them both on the bike, but the gremlin got one of them. Not sure where it went but there is only one now.

I was given one by my daughter in law and I gave one to Cindy.
They have to be gifts in order for them to work a their most powerful level http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
I have given some to friends we ride with also.

I have one that was given to me by my best friend. I rode for over 15 years without one, but since my buddy feels strongly about it I put it on. It certainly can't hurt, and who knows...?

Davidjones gave me one before I rode the Dragon last year. Well, it has worked good since but it is now in my saddle bag because the arch on the top broke off. Oh well, maybe I'll get another some day.

That won't work. Someone else has to give it to you.
You need your friend to get you another one...

Sister and brother-in-law, who live in Florida (Harley riders), gave me and the wife ours several years ago. Mounted underneath kinda to the right side. Can hear it jingle every now and then when I lean into a sharp right turn as I guess it's bouncing against the road.

A good friend gave me one soon after I picked up the Nomad. Has to be given to you and he told me that it had to be attached as close to the ground as possible!!!!!!!!!!!! You can see it in the pick about halfway between the two exhaust pipes exiting the engine.

Well it seems a lot of you guys have them.
Actually there is a little more to my story than just getting one given to me at Thanksgiving.
My brother was given one for his new Wing in the spring. This summer coming back from a trip to the East Coast He hit a wooden palette on the highway square on doing about 105 km. I was behind him and to the left and missed the bits of wood flying everywhere as the palette sort of exploded with the impact.

No damage to his bike, not even a scratch. but the bell was torn off and lost. We joked that the bell had done it's job and his wife bought him another soon after. He mumbled something about me pushing my luck riding without one as he gave me mine. Who knows.

A few years ago I totaled out my Nomad. (but I rebuilt it).
I never thought about it but the bell was pretty well destroyed, but I rebuilt it also, and it's still on the bike!
And so far I haven't had a problem..... until last week.
2 problems in 92,000 miles ain't bad..... http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

I got mine as a gift from my Harley ridin bud, when we were on our first road trip out in the hill country. He's been a good friend and given me several tips, pointers and bits of advice about life on the road on a bike. A great mentor. Hey! I think there's a new thread in there somwhere. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

My wife gave me one for the bike. In turn I gave one to a friend and one to my son. Does it work? Probably not but what the heck, it doesn't hurt. Just a little biking tradition like black leather and engineer boots.

I was told that it has to be gifted to you to fully work. If you get it yourself it is only half as good.
I knew if I waited for one of my buddies to give me one it wouldn't happen so I bought my own. Another friend saw it and asked about it. I told him the "story" behind the bells and he told me when he gets his bike going next spring he is going to buy one and he and I will swap bells so that we have full protection.

In that case you could buy yourself 2 and have all the protection of one single bell http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

A close friend gave me a guardian bell right after I got my Nomad. I had never heard of it before and didn't know the significance. When I learned about it, it made our friendship even stronger. The bell has been hanging on ol' Biscuits N Gravy ever since. No problems other than getting popped with gravel from trucks, etc. BnG

I have seen some on bikes but I have never seen one in the bike shop I go or any other store for that matter. Where do you get them if someone doesn't give you one?

no bell, just a guardian

Also... you have to have the bell mounted as low as you can on the bike.
The frame is where you usually see them.

When I bought my Nomad at the HD shop there was one hanging on it. I figure that was my gift from another rider. I signed up on line to gift a bell, paid the money and they gift to someone else that signed up. You are supposed to receive yours in the mail as a gift from another person. Well I have never received mine which I was going to give to my wife. They are supposed to forward the information on the person you gifted to so they can contact you and thank you and make a new friend. Well it has not happened and I am out 15.00 or so.

Just buy them at Dennis Kirk or any on line store. Probably can get them on Ebay as well.
Then give them to who you want. They will appreciate it. At least the friends I gave them to do.

I have 2 bells, one a friend gave to me, the other, I got for my wife. I had them mounted where the crash bar meets the frame on the bottom. Coming home from the spring rally in Helen this year, while laying over in a curve, I heard it bouncing against the road. When I got home and checked it, both had been scraping the asphalt, http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif so I moved them under the radiator, no more hitting the road now. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I bought the bell we have on our Nomad. When I mounted it on the saddle bag mount bar behind the rear tire I told it, it was for the wife who would be riding right above it.

The idea is....The gremlins like to hide in small places and will crawl into it to hide. The ringing of the bell while the bike is in motion will drive them nuts and they loose their grip and fall off onto the road as you ride.

This is a really nice guy from VolusiaRiders.com who sells both brass or chrome ride bells.

This link gives the history of the ride bell, too.
