Ok, so I am still working out the kinks on my new 03 nomad. I recently installed the Fire and Steel Driver backrest and took it for an hour test drive. Here's what happened:
I had the rest forward enough to make it comfy for me to reach the bars. After about 15 min I noticed that I was not sitting properly in the seat but too far forward, giving me crotch pain.
When I moved the rest back, I was too far back to comfortably reach the bars. Keep in mind I'm 6'7".

Are forward risers in my future? Are chuckster's the answer?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Sounds like you are in need of pull back risers. I need a set also but just haven't gotten around to purchasing a set as of yet. I'm only 6'0". With your reach at 6'7" I'm a little surprised that you need risers.

I am 6 foot and have a grasshopper backrest. With 2 inch risers the fit was perfect.Like riding in an easy chair.

I ride with a grasshopper rest and Phat II risers. I would still like a little more pullback. But I'm "only" 6'0". Risers may be worth checking into.

I use my trunk for a back rest and have the Phat II risers. I am 5' 9" and the fit for me is great.

You may need a combination of things...maybe risers and removing about 1/2" layer of foam from your backrest to get you back in the seat "groove". I think I need the same thing. 6'2"...I have the Chuckster risers and GH backrest but have not removed the foam....still get monkey butt. I am going to remove some foam this winter.

My brother did the foam removal trick on his GH backrest (VTX 1800) and it helped.

Risers can make all the difference. Love my risers put me in just the right position.... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

At 5' 8" I am really comfortable as the bike is. I get butt ache and a backrest wouldn't help that. Just something I have learned to live with.

Where is the "Chuckster" at?? Maybe he can give some insight into the difference tween his pullback/height change vs. the Phat II's?? Quick question here also, can we tilt our Nomad bars back (making the bar ends point downward a bit) without creating problems with our reservoir fluid levels in front brake and clutch?? I feel my arms are at too high a position now, and although I feel I need more pullback, am afraid risers may raise my arms up even higher. Can any of you with the "Chuckster" risers tell me if you feel they raised up the position of your arms?? Thanks...jim

Ok, Here is my thoughts on the topic.
Adding risers do two things. One is getting the handlebars back closer to you and the other is raising the bars up to help keep you from leaning over, putting pressure on your hands, and shoulders.
I risers I make are straight, but keep inmind that the triple tree is on a angle thus as you go up they also come back. The 2" risers will gain you just over a 1" in set-back and 1 7/8" in rise. Myself I have 2 1/2" risers on my 01 , and even being 6' tall and long arms I like the comfort of having my arms bent really good at the elbows.
I also have the F-S (Markland) backrest and have no problem at all being able to lean back against it, and still be in total comfort.
Chech this link to some pics of the risers along with other items I make.

You can play the 400 dollar seat game, or buy a far less expensive sheep hide. Sheep hides can be used as they are and or cut down. They can be bought cut down too.

I like them because I am skin and bone thin, and can roll and bunch the hide anyway i want when ever I want.
