I just got back from a 1200 mile trip and the one thing I was really wishing for was a back rest. I had the Mustang seat with the drivers backrest on my 02 Nomad, and the Utopia backrest on my Goldwing. I'm sticking with the stock seat on the Nomad (use Airhawk), but would like to install a backrest that works with it. I saw something about the Grasshopper and checked out the web site.

The picture they have of it on a 1600 Nomad looks like it would push you forward at least an inch. Is that accurate from those that have one of them? I don't want to be pushe forward any that's for sure.

It seems to be the perfect fit to me...

Works good for me.Reasonable price, and you can bend it to adjust it a little. It does not push me forward unless I bend it forward.

No complaints from me either. Doesn't push me forward that I notice. (I'm 6'-1", 215#)

No complaints also. Did a 2000 mile trip in September and loved it.

Once I started messing around trying different seats the rest put me to far forward. It was fine with the stock seat.
I have a seat from a Honda Aero on now so I took the Grasshopper reat apart and turned the back so now it is the front. This moved me back about 1/2".
All that being said I like the shape of my CWI rest much better but can't get it to work with the seats I'm trying now.

one of the nice things about it is it is removable. I'll ride with it for x amount of hours, then remove it for awhile just to mix it up.

One more question for you guys....

How is it throwing your leg over it? My Mustang and Utopia folded down so mounting was really no different.

My brother has a VTX 1800 and a Grasshopper backrest. He took a little foam ...about 1/2" out and now it is perfect.

I have one on my Nomad and I like it the way it is (stock seat...1500cc)

I don't throw my leg over it I just aim my boot in front of the backrest. No problem but I am pretty limber for an old guy. 6'2" 195#.

I don't throw my leg over it either, I was also concerned about it not having a hinge, it takes some getting us to, but now its no problem. I bent my forward & it works great, I am 6' 1".

If you can afford it why not get another Utopia? I love mine.

I got one from Grasshopper for Christmas last year and LOVE it!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

My previous owner had cut off the front 1 1/2 or 2 inches of the passenger's seat, so Grasshopper had to play with his typical design and gave me more of a "tombstone" look. I tell you, it's perfect! ;) And I never ride without it.

It really supports my lower back, provides great support in the lumbar and helps me sit up straight without getting tired over long rides. I have no problem flipping a leg over, with or without chaps on.

I would definitely put this on your Christmas list...right above an air horn and equal to the highway pegs. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

Take care,
Rich

I've got a Bakup, Cost a bit more, but it folds forward and adjust up/down, for/aft, and has springy give so it dont\'t feel like a brick in your back. For the money and design, Grasshopper is a good backrest, easily removable and all. They was not available When I got mine... ::)

If you can afford it why not get another Utopia? I love mine.

I don't think the shape of the Utopia matches the Mustang passenger backrest I now have. I also think it may make my wife feel a little cramped as it mounts aft more than the Grasshopper.
