We recently purchased 2 sets of tail lights to install in the back of the hard bags and was wondering if anyone here has done this? We are looking for pics to see what they will look like once installed.

I'm not sure who it was, but I have seen a Nomad with the lights installed. It looked pretty good.

Look on the gadget page. I seem to remember it on there.

Yes I do Al, but I could not find a pic from the back. I'll take one tomorrow and post it.

Hey cyclecat, this is not a very good pic but you can get the idea.
The leds look like they point down but that ia an illusion. They are actually pointing straight bach.

Here's one place. Speedway has a ton of street rod style lighting. I like the 39 Lincoln with the chrome bars on them. They also have the tear drops with a trim ring that has flames on the bottom. Do a search for taillights

We got ours given to us by a friend that ordered them from a place in Langley, British Columbia and I also found the same at a place called shineyhiney.com Ours are LED, and flush mount so we only have to drill 3 small holes in the bags for the wires to go through. We have had 2 sets of the regular tail lights for years but have never mounted them because of the size of the hole that needs to be cut in the bags. The LED are quite a bit more money but are worth it to use because of the flush mount feature.

If you haven't installed the lights yet could you post a pic of them?
I had flush mount leds on my Nomad before I put on the tombstone lights. They didn't shine straight rearward and people I ride with couldn't tell if they were working or not. Leds are a lot more directional than regular bulbs.
You want them to face rear in a vertical position. Like this.

Not like this.

Another thing to keep in mind. The "real" 39 Ford tear drop tail lights not only require a large hole for the bulb bucket to fit through they also have a glass lens.
The red glass doesn't allow a lot of light through it. I can remember many years ago we were at a rod run and following another street rod with the 39's and the sun was in my eyes. I almost rear ended a nice A coupe because I didn't see his brake lights come on. The LED's have a plastic lens and are a lot brighter.
I have a blue dot glass lens 39 on the rear of my dragster. It only needs to be a tail light so I wired both sides of the bulb to be on at the same time.

Both sets of lights, LED and regular, both look like the pics on the website posted here. The only difference is the back of the regular lights has a big oval piece sticking out about 1" from the back of the lights.

TC, installed one set of tail lights yesterday, and wow are they bright. No one is going to miss these no matter if they sit flat on the bags or not. I will try to get a pic tonight and post it.

I hope your right but the ones I had flat on the bags looked bright standing right behind the bike. It was at the distance a car follows that they idin't show much at all. They are directional and shined mostly up at an angle.
Hope yours work like you want. A pic would be nice, thanks.

Stood back about 50 feet with the lights on and they are bright. And then Brian hit the brake, they become almost blindingly bright.

Alright, glad they worked out for you. They look real nice. If it's not to much trouble, could you post a pic from the side? Just curious http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Can't see the side of the lights very well because they are flush mount but here's the picture.

Hey CycleCat, those taillights look great! I'm going to get the 38-39 Lincoln LED lights that shineyhiney.com has to offer. I've been wanting lights on the bags for a long time and you and Brian helped me make the decision!

Say, did you ever do anything with the sheepskin you won at the Custer rally? I was the one that donated it. Dave aka BnG

Mine will get done this week-end and then we just have to wait for a warm day to go for a ride to check them out on the road.
