Is the Cruiser category just a market gimmick ... A tag for the V twin of the Metric persuasion? Most Metrics come from little countries were 250cc would be enough and scooters dominate. Here in North America are wide open expanses ... Miles with no stopping ... not even a town with an intersection. So bikes have been basically big here to run the land.

Take the 1940s for example, there were no cruisers ...
