Gents,

I am looking for a light bar that has a clean old-school look, but I do not want the turn signals sticking out on the sides because they make the bike even wider. Are there any lightbars that have the turn signals under the driving lights? As far as I know both the F&S and Cobra has the signals on the sides. I would not go with the CVI - are there any more options for the Nomad? I saw other lightbars for the Classic but they probably won`t fit the Nomad because of the lowers. Any suggestions?
Many thanks, Gabor

The Fire & Steel, Cobra and CWI are the only lightbars (even though CWI is technically NOT a lightbar) - I've seen intended specifically for the Nomad.

Sounds like your looking for the Harley lightbar. Lights hanging down.

I was thinking that a Harley lightbar may be adapted also, that sounds like its just what your looking for.

Take a look at the pic I posted and tell me how those signal lights make the bike wider. They are way inside the width of the handlebars and saddlebags.
I also thought the Fire & Steel bar has the signal lights hanging down. I ould be mistaken on this but I don't think I am.

These are the ones that I have, xgringo. So far,I am pleased with them. They were abit less money, and the installation was pretty easy.I hooked them to come on when the headlight comes on to have less drain on the cranking battery. They go off when the ignition is turned off.

I think TC's light bar is the Cobra. I have one too, but i can't be sure his is, but it looks like it to me. They are rugged larger dia steel tubing, and mount at the ends which makes the forks a little stiffer side to side.

There sometimes is a hell of a glare off this type with the sun low at yer back coming off the far ends where there is a angle down in chrome.

if you trip over some pic of my bike and see the turn pods are out, disreguard them as my pods are not mounted on Cobra stems. The bar i got was missing stems and so I made them my way, which is very similar, but 1/2 longer than Cobras. Since then I got Cobra stems, but am too lazy to tinker with them, besides mine are stronger.

Maybe you could even make these work.

Yes Eagleman, Mac is right. My bar is a Cobra. He is also right about the glare at times. I put some carbon fiber pattern contact vinyl on the ends of mine to stop the glare. No one even notices it.

I went with the CWI because I did not want the turn signals sticking out sideways. The CWI is not really a light bar, but just brackets the mount the lights above the existing turn signals. I really like the look myselft. I have had them for over 2 years, they use the 4411 sealed beam lights and they worked with my premuex fairing.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

TC you are right, the blinkers do not make the NAD wider. Most pictures I saw were taken from an angle not directly from the front.

I think I figured out why the blinkers stick out on the two available light bars made for the NAD . If the blinkers hung down they would partially cover the lowers and that would not look good at all. For the Vulcan Classic both F&S and Cobra offers light bars with the blinkers hanging down.

I`ll probably go with the F&S, I spotted a set for $ 280 but keep looking for a bargain...

One more thing :-) I am looking for nothing Harley. I would have bought one had I wanted one. Here, in Virginia Beach most bikers ride HDs and my NAD is quite unique here - I get a lot of compliments from folks. IMHO the Nomad has a very characteristic, sort of retro but still slick look that I really like.

The CWI mounts above the existing turn signals, using the holes for the shield or lowers (I cannot recall which). You do not have to relocate the turn signals.

I went with the value accessories billet mount lights....they mount with the windshield bolts and give a cleaner look to the front of the bike......no modifications needed and they bolt right up.

I found a set of F&S on eBay for $232 (Part #K32001-011). But I had to keep looking for quite a while. I would have gone with Cobra's had I not found these and it's my understanding that Cobra makes the F&S lights for Kawasaki. They do match the headlight nicely in the fact that the reflectors have the same vertical lines that the headlight has. But I sure wouldn't spend a lot of extra money just for that. I also replaced the 25W H3 white bulbs with 55W H3 amber bulbs.

I like my CWI's too. I've got mine switched to show brights w/spots, low beams w/spots, and both high/lows w/o spots. I like em. BnG

The turning lights are from a 1500 Nomad.

If you found a set of F&S for $232 you did get a great deal - depending on what you had to pay for shipping. The best I could find was $280 and went with that deal. I do like the way they match the head light assembley and design. I don't have mine mounted yet, waiting on my Phat II riser/pullbacks and my stainless steel +2 cable and hoses so I can install all at once. Must say I do like the way the look on your bike. You made a good choice. I see you have a drivers backrest - what kind is it and how do you like it?

Just checked the receipt for my F&S lights; shipping was $12.00. So I figure I did alright. Backrest is from Grasshopper.

http://www.grasshopperlimited.com/

There is lots of discussion on this forum about his backrests and it's all favorable. You can spend more for ones that are adjustable. But I am happy with mine as it is. I used to get back aches after about 100 miles. Now, even after 300 miles - no more aches and pains. I highly recommend it.

At $12 shipping you got a GREAT deal on your F&S light bar. I have narrowed the drivers backrest down to either a Back-Up or Grasshopper. I know the Grasshopper is cheaper but I really like the features of the adjustable Back-Up model and the fact that it folds forward is a big plus for me. You have a great looking bike - course I am partial to your color. Like the solo effect in your picture. Those aren't stock exhaust - what are you running there?

I've been very pleased how Nomad's look solo.

In my case, my wife refuses to ride so my rear seat was just extra baggage.

The pipes are Cobra's. I bought the bike used with 3K and the Cobra's were already on it.

I like how they look and I like how they sound. Not too loud but you know they're there if you wrap it.

We kind of got sidetracked on Tanker's original lightbar posting. Let us know how things are after you get everything hooked up and hope to hear from Tanker. I didn't know it at the time but my F&S lights came from a salvage warehouse in Kansas City. So that's probably why they were cheaper than you could find them from a dealer.

Update>By the time I would have placed a "buy it now" bid on the eBay someone "stole" it. I found another one for $280 with free shipping. It`s been a week and it is still coming....
I`ll probably wire it directly to the battery as macmac suggested inserting a 10A inline fuse. Does the light switch come with a decent clamp or shell I order a better one? I have a PIAA extreme white (blue) bulb in the headlight that works better than the stock with the same wattage. I wonder whether I should use amber bulbs for the driving lights (does it work for you?) or go with the blue ones there, too (we do not have fog very often at the shoreline)
OFF> We visited Shenandoah with the family (had to take the car because of the kids) and stayed in Front Royal. Great area, beautiful Skyline Drive! We must go back two up with my wife...

Nomadman,

I am European, too and after my NATO tour I am bringing back the Black Cougar to Hungary. I see that you have EU spec headlights. Does that light a running light like the US spec? (After you turn on the engine the low beam would light up or just the little "position marker" comes on?) I am worried that I may have to change the headlight to an EU spec one and have it rewired, too. Anyway, I will have to rewire the front blinkers because those are running lights as well, and that is a no go for sure.
Thanks,
Gabor

Gabor,

In my set up, the little bulb (5W), we call it here citylight goes on with turning on the contact key, the low headlight goes on after starting up the engine. Kawasaki call's that AHO (Automatic Headlights On)

The spotlights are wired via an on/off switch on the handlebars and a relais, and gets only currency when the contact key is in the on position.

I made myself some brackets to fit the lightbar on the bike.

For the V2K are not many accessoires available.

Succes on your search!
