I recently got Avon Cobras installed about 1,500 miles ago. they were great until I noticed the front tire had splits about 2 inches long down the center of the tire. They were random 2 inch splits so a few per total tire. You could lift up the rubber with your fingernail. i took it back to where I bought it and they replaced it 100% free in about 30 minutes. it rode fine nothing noticeable. Always kept at 40 psi

just wanted to let others know since alot of you guys have Avons. Check your tires closely, can hardly see the splits. This tire was made in '08.

Ride easy, Doc

Thanks Doc, I have one on the front. Was there any explanation from the dealer?

No explanation from dealer, except they all said we have never seen that before. :-) the date codes on both front tires have been middle '08 so a good yr old before I bought them.

That's not very old IMO. My rear Cobra only lasted a little over 6,000 miles pulling the trailer for most of it. The trip to Custer really ate up the center. I kind of expected it because everything I read about pulling a trailer well stated that it's very hard on the back tire. Not blaming the Cobra.

That inspection should apply to all tires, all brands, just to be safe. Just my 2 cents worth.

Wow Doc. I've heard of other tires having a split but not the cobra.
