Well I did it I made the mistake of ridding a 2006 goldwing.I think it got the hooks in me. So I will be putting it up for sale soon.

I cannot fault you for lusting after a Wing. If the ergos fit me I'd be riding one myself. Enjoy the ride.

Good luck with the wing. I think they are nice bikes but I just can't see one in my future anytime soon. Love my '99

Good luck SP. That is one great looking Nomad.

You have a beautiful Nomad. What year is it? Years ago I owned an '83 Goldwing and really loved it. There are two things that keep me from owning another. One is that a new Goldwing costs so much, starting at around $18,000. The other is that they seem to have gotten so large.

Got to say I love my '08 Nomad and will be keeping it until it falls apart and then will just rebuilt it. Good luck and don't be a stranger here.

Spirello, same thing happened here. Very dangerous activity test riding Wings. I've had mine three weeks, and 2,000 miles of smiles.

You'll enjoy it. Congratulations......

The Nomad has been good to me, and I'll miss'r some. These Mads serve a fella well.

You know, there seem to be a handful of guys around here that are changing bike brands or styles- ST 1300's and Gold Wings.

Now we all know the long list of amenities available on a Gold Wing, but how about some details on why you switched or what it is you think is so great? Is it the 6-cylinder smoothness, is it having a radio, a GPS, available ABS, or what?

We are talking about two totally different bikes here. To buy a cruiser and compare it to a bona fide touring bike like a Gold Wing is not an entirely fair comparison.

I'm not knocking Wings or those who buy them- would just like a few details on what really prompted the switch from the 'alluring' V-Twin and all the chrome.

There is a bike for every reason. I bought the Nad to cruise around exploring for a couple of hours a day with the wife behind me. I wanted the nastalgic look and sound of a V twin.

Now, if someday I was to become interested in enduring the interstate traffic and seeing how many states I could color in, a Gold Wing would be my preferred choice.

Congrats on the wing. I have a friend who rides a wing ('08), and he told me that starting with the '06 and up, there has been a lot of problems with the transmissions. Something you might want to keep an eye on, and they are wonderful bikes.

I know three pals that have bought Wings within the last year. All three say that are great bikesto ride. One of my neighbourshad a Wing, and has had two Ultras and a Road King since.
He still talks about how the Wing was so much more comfortable to ride on long trips, but he wanted the Harley look and sound.

Bill Mac,

I think you hit the nail on the head....it is a choice of lifestyles (and price to some dgeree) . I can see why serious tourers would want a Wing or St 1300....smooth, quiet, power, and bulletproof.... even more bullet proof than our trusty Nads.

Production of Wings is going back to Japan as the Japs weren't happy with the quality coming out of the U.S. I also heard rumor the Wing is due for a major redesign.....they would be foolish to mess with that engine. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them rekindle something like the Valkyrie.

Have fun with the new bike Spirello!

Well after ridding the wing for about 5 days I decided to keep the nad loud ass motor and all. But I will say I really liked the power and handling of the wing but i didnt feel cool if you know what I mean. Every once in awhile I get a car that I pass and they will give me the thumbs up and I dont think you would ever get that on a wing.

Sounds like a good decision to me. Of course, I'm prejudiced, I love the Nomad!

Spirello: For what it's worth, I have never seen a wing that looks at sharp as your nad.

I think its like wearing white loafers, white socks, and expandable waist pants. It's comfortable, but kind of makes you look like a retiree. :)

I'm glad you decided to hang out with us awhile longer.

Dan, that was good! I wonder if a Goldwing comes with one of those polyester jumpsuits with the little belt?

To quote Adam Sandler: "If I saw myself in clothes like that, I would have to kick my own ass!"

Test rode a new Wing before getting the Nad but just wasn't what I was looking for, and probably never will.

Spirello,
Temptations abound, but your Nad is a fine looker. I'd keep it too, if I were you! BnG

PS.. what's so funny about a powder blue jump suit? All the girls down at the retirement center think it's cute.

OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!! I had my mind up to go rent a Gold Wing and see what it's all about, but after these abusive comments, I may have to do it by the dark of night- or not at all. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Glad you thought it over and tried the Wing. At least now you know. You do have a GREAT looking bike and I have not seen a Wing that looks any nicer. A Wing is like having a two wheeled Accord. Honda makes a great product but I never really considered it to be a real motorcycle. More like a long distance two wheeled touring machine. The Nomad however is a real motorcycle. Wishing you many more years of enjoyment with your Nomad.
