Our Nomads are 1500's and we both have an adjustable drivers backrest made by Kawasaki. It hooks on under the passenger seat and has a turny thing on both sides to slide the backrest back and forth. I cannot find anything like it for the 1600. Did Kawasaki not make this backrest for the 1600? What other adjustable backrest are there for the 1600? I know about the Back-up backrest but it doesn't quite adjust like the website says it will; I've seen one in person on a Yamaha and it doesn't move forward or back, just up and down.

Here is one CLICK HERE (http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CWI%2DDRVRBKRST%2DK AWASAKI&CartID=). It's made by CWI (Custom World International), and is almost exactly like the Fire & Steel ones that Y'all have on the 1500s

as for the back-up rest it depends on the model of the bike it is
made for.some have forward or back adjustment and others do
not.i'm not sure about the nomad version but i hade one for my
suzuki m-109 and it was definately adjustable forward or back.

One of the things that I like about the Utopia is that you can adjust the forward/back on-the-go. I use several riding positions - one is more upright than the other and I can adjust it back some for a more laid back ride.

Utopia makes a great product. I have found that being able to adjust it while going down the road has been a tremendous benifit. The price is also a great feature.

Although I don't have a Nomad I do ride a 1600 Classic and installed the CWI adjustable backrest. I also have one on my C50 and like it so well I put one on my wife's C50 too. It's isn't adjustable on the fly so you do have to wrench a couple of minutes to make the changes but it does adjust up and down and front to back. I was fortunate to find 2 of the 3 in used but very nice condition at half the price.
Cheers!

I had the backup rest on my Nomad. Mine adjusted forward and back but not up and down :-/ It was $360 http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif
Now I have the grasshopper modle. I just bent it to where I wanted and it works as good as the Backup. It was only $100 http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I just installed the Utopia Products driver backrest and all I can say is what a difference. The install was extremely easy, just as laid out in their directions. The quality of the product is great and for the $$$ you can't beat it. The amount of adjustments allowed with this backrest will meet the need of any sized driver. I had looked at every drivers backrest that would fit my 08' Nomad and this one isn't the cheapest or the most expensive. Look around but I will bet you can't beat the Utopia for quality, style, and adjustablility.

My Bakup does adjust up/down, for/aft. Also folds down for ease of mounting for one throwing the leg over the seat. The one you see on the Yammy might not have full adjustability, but the one for the Nomad and the Classic ARE fully adjustable. A well constructed backrest. ;) I don't know where you are from, but if you was close to me, I'd let you check mine out to convince you. You won't be sorry with the Bakup if you are going to remain with your stock seat. I've had my seat reworked because the Bakup will not work with the Mustang seats. Hope this gives you a bit more insight.

I ride an '03 1500 so I have the Fire & Steel backrest and it is quite nice. I am asking question for a friend that has bought a 1600 Nomad and is looking for the same type of backrest as the 1500 has. The dealer he bought the Nomad from, has told him he can get the same Fire & Steel backrest for the 1600 but they are not made for the 1600 so now I don't know what he's getting. Unfortunately we live in Southern Alberta and the Nomad is shipping from Fort Worth, Texas so we cannot even go to the dealer and see what he's getting. The dealer has charged him $314 US for the backrest so it should be a damn good one although I cannot find any backrest on the Internet for that kind of money that fits on the 1600.
My friend, Charlie, is currently riding a Yamaha 1300 and has a Bak-up on it. That particular Bak-up backrest does not have any forward or back adjustment so it does not sit where it should and is pretty much useless. But since Charlie has now bought the ultimate ride http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif, he doesn't have to worry about comfort anymore, with or without a backrest.
