JR looked mighty strong tonight. Stewart and Gordon looked good too! I watched the practice session last night and saw the incident between Stewart and Busch. Rough and tumble like the old days.

What your watching today in NASCAR is not even close to the "old days". I watched the last race on the beach in Daytona and the first nine races on the speedway. Back then the manufacturers had to build and sell to the public , 500 of what they put on the track. That law went out in the 70's. There isn't anything remotely close to stock out there now. NASCAR stands for National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing. They should change it to
PLNAYCHMAC, play nice and you can have milk and cookies.
Its not what it use to be for me. It was much better 20-25 years ago. I guess I'm getting older like the older drivers. The new kids all think thier crap doesn't stink.

NASCAR is boring compared to Drag Racing IMO

I went to Pocono 2 years ago when my wife won tickets. It was boring. I'd rather go to Dover where the action is fast and furious and you can see the whole track like a fish bowl along with alot of crashes. Nascar crashes are the fun part like fights are to make hockey more interesting.
NASCAR is boring compared to Drag Racing IMO I miss that 1/8 th drap strip in Windgap.

OMG, I went there and watched as a kid. One of my best friends house adjoins the property which now belongs to the Appalachion Fiddle and Bluegrass Assoc. They have weekend concerts there a few times a year. My other friend's family used to run the drag strip.

Old biker's write and the closes you can come to the old days is truck racing they seem to get away more sheetmetal trading. If you want to watch driver perform' watch the roar rallies through the woods and mud holes and they have the fans standing next to the road. It used to be the car had to be a production car. Seen any Camarys with a v8 lately.

I was referring to the fact that some of the guys are actually showing some balls and allowing their feelings to show. I know what is was like back in the day (70's and up) and have a historical knowledge of the sport prior to that. I realize that they will never get back to the day where you can buy what you see on the track. Equipment wise, it will never get to that, nor will it in any branch of auto racing.
My favorite type of auto racing is dirt sprint cars and dirt late models. I raced a dirt sportsmen 6 cylinder back in the late 70's and early 80's in the summers while I was home from college. I loved it. Saw some of the greats of dirt track racing up close when it wasn't big business either.

What was the saying? What wins on Sunday.....sells on Monday or
something like that.
Along with the fact that you could rent those Mustangs from Hertz and race them at the drags ,WIN, and bring them back the next day!!!!!!

Yep, that was the saying. But you can still rent the Shelby Mustangs from Hertz. I read in Road and Track a writer rented one, went to a Mustang rally, and won best in class or best in show. Now that is funny!

I watched the time trials today. Nice to see Michael Waltrip and his team bounce back and look good today.

Nascar is trying to re-capture some of it's steam from 3-5 years ago. It is losing TV ratings, and not selling out races like before.
I think ( of course, no one asked me!) that Nascar needs to do a few things and they will be just fine.
1. re-connect with your core fans. These people lived to see their drivers do the short tracks and the speedways. Not just in Cal, or Chicago or Miami but the south & mid west.
2. No more 'teams' with 10 cars each. ( Hendrick) The Woods brothers and Petty went out and ran the crap out of them and if it went boom, oh well.
3. C.O.T. I feel the car of tommorrow will turn this into a spec race. The only thing that 'changes' anything is the basic engine design.
Will I watch Daytona? Yes. But I think their are changes that could be made.

I think you are spot on with your comments. Dave Dispain (sp) even stated those items as some things that need to be addressed, although he felt the C.O.T. may help some of the smaller teams be competitive because you are can "supposedly" run the same car at all types of tracks.
Personally, I hate the 1 1/2 mile cookie cutter layouts. I wish The Rock, North Wilksboro and some of the others were still on the schedule. Heck, throw 'em on the dirt at Eldora or Knoxville for a week and see what they'd do.
Amen to the Rock and N. Wilkesboro. To tie this in a little...I bought my Nomad from a dealership in Rockingham at a rock bottom price (10400)...the economy there has gone to hell since the race left and there is a new bypass around the little city. Was good for me but a lot of the economy came from those races which are now gone...I miss the good ole days when NASCAR was real. Hope its coming back a little

Hey, Coacha has a point. Lets see them on a dirt track!!!!!
Now I LOVE road racing ( which is my favorite form of racing) But I would trade one of the road races for a dirt race any day! I thought Tony Stewart did a dirt race for charity with other Winston Cup drivers and they all liked it.
If they just stop saturating the market, it will heal itself.

That was called the Nextel Prelude to the Dream. It was on HBO pay-per-view as a benefit for the Victory Junction Gang Camp. There were numerous NASCAR drivers participating in the event using their own machines (Schrader, Stewart, Elliott, and a couple others) and borrowed machines. Great night of racing.
Back in the day (50's and early 60's) they had some dirt races on the schedule for NASCAR.
