Hey guys. Sorry for not being on much lately. But it has been a hell of a time dealingwith all th epaperwork and things neccesary to move out. The movers will be here tues-thursday packing my house and my bike.
I will have multiple question about how to fdrain all flammable fluids from the bike. That however can wait.
I just found out that the brand new exhaust V&H dual baggers will not pass inspection in Germany. the regs specifically say no fiberglass packing ot cut outs or straight pipes. Noise not to exceed 95 decibels.
Is there any way of making my bike conform to that? I dont think so.
Does anyone have a stock exhaust they could sell me and ship immediately?
As I am moving to Germany. I will definitely be able to repay favors by getting memorbilia or stuff that people may collect.
Thanks for input.

Yep that would be the one he wants.
Maybe someone wants your V&H and would work a fair trade with you?

I bought my 06 Nomad in November 07 with 3K miles on it. The PO had put Cobra's on it shortly after he bought it and gave me the original pipes that are just taking up space in my garage.
I live in Front Royal, about 125 miles from Richmond. My pipes are yours at no cost if you can arrange to come and pick them up. I'll send you a PM with my phone numbers and email address.

Well, I drove up and gave jim a quick visit and he gave me his exhaust. HE sure did help me out of a bind. All the chrom seems to be in great condition. It appears all the exhaust peices are there, but here was no hardware. I assume you just use the same screws and bolts when you switch them out. Tomorrow, in the light, I will post a pic of all that I have and if anyone sees anthing missing, I can order it before I go.
Thanks alot for your help Jim. I truly appreciate it.

Sam -
Here's a link to a parts diagram for the muffler system.

Note that there is a sliding scale across the bottom to zoom or expand the diagram.

Use the acorn nuts that are on the bike now, and you may have to get some of the small bolts that support the pipes at the rear of the bike. The V&H bolts are 5/16" NC and I think the OEM hardware is metric.

Sam,
You will reuse the acorn nuts that are on the head jugs, but the (4) bolts that bolt into the mufflers are metric on the stock mufflers 8 x 1.25 and the V-H are 5/16-18 So if you don't have those metric bolts you will need (4) of them.

Thanks for the diagram link Jim.
I need to call the company today if they are open and find out exactly what needs to be done. I thin it may just need to be drained of all flammable fluids. ie gas and oil. The bike is being crated up and shipped with my household goods, and will go in a large shipping container.
my truck just has to be completely cleaned out and with less than a quarter tank of gas. IT should be on a ship that is nothing bt auto transport.

Here's what all Jim gave me. I am not sure about availability of stuff overseas, so just to be safe I am going into the shop tomorrow to get most og the hardware so that there are no worries or suprises for me later on down the road.

There is 2 rubber mounting bushings missing, that hold the goat bladder on, the 2 bolts going into the goat bladder.
When you buy 2 buy 4 as these get cooked. It is likely that yours are gone, even if they were not removed.
You also need 2 head pipe to head crush gaskets.
All the hardware is metric..
When the V&H system comes off put the 2 each side for the muffler bolts back in the mufflers.. Those are American SAE.
When the time comes to install the OEM set install the cat first, leave the 2 support bolts loose in the rubber mounts, and antiseize them. Antiseize the rubber OD too. And the frame where they go.
The 3 ports face the right side of the bike, as shown it is bass akwards. I forget what size the goat bladder bolts are, but you have both of them.
The 4 missing bolts for the mufflers are 8mm by 1.25 pitch about 35 mm's long aka 1 and 3/8"
You may or not need 4 flat washers, it depends on if you still have any on the bagger mufflers.

Thanks Mac, for the accurate and detailed info. I am taking my bike over ther with the baggers on and crossing my fingers really tight that it will pass inspection. If not, you can bet I'll be on here reading and figuring out how the exhaust goes back on and taking off the baggers.

sam I have to tell you that aside from the headache of moving I am a bit jealous. You will have a fantastic opportunity to meet and ride with many KawaNOW members that the rest of us will probably only know through the forum.
Hey TRIP I would nominate samkjr to be our first KawaNOW ambassador to Europe. :)
I hope all goes well with your moving and you have a safe journey. Be sure to let us know when you arrive safely.

OP, funny. thank you I appreciate it. My mom did this when I was a freshman in high school and I lived with her for one year in Naples, Italy before moving back to the states for military school. She had been trying for 6 years before she got into the system. Ever since I figured out that I wanted to be a teacher I knew that I wanted to do it to and get over to Europe.
From looking on the forum, I do not see any members from Germany, but I am sure there are some kinda nearby. One of the coolest things will be that I am a teacher. I STILL HAVE MY SUMMERS OFF! So instead of tooling around Va, NC, and PA. I now get to just do Europe. For example a couple things I looked up is that I am 7 hours from Paris and 6 hours from Prague, and about three from Munich and Berlin.
As I will be a lonely nomad over there, I will rely heavily on the comraderie of this forum. I will do my best to keep some good pictures coming. I will most likely be away until the month of November though. There is no telling if there will be (cheap) internet available while I am in the hotel, but my goal is to be out of there within 60 days. It will be two - three months before my bike even gets to me and even longer if I have trouble passing inspections.
