Well the little woman finally informed me that she is 90%sure that she won't be riding anymore. It seems that riding aggravates her anxiety issues too much and she just can't enjoy it anymore.

With that said the Nomad is going solo. I am going to finish my trunk project so that it is ready by thetime the next national rally comes along but will no longer be a permanent fixture on my nomad. I will be looking into several seat options for going solo. at least now i finally know. Wish I would have known prior to Custer as I could have seperated the Rally and our vacation but oh well, what;s done is done. At least now I can put behind us and move on.

I have my tourpak on a Wompus rack and I can remove the whole thing in less than 10 minutes. I won't, because I like the convenience of a tourpak, but it would not be difficult to switch back and forth.

I am considering teh mustang solo with backrest option. Have heard that corbin makes a nice looking solo. there is a guy on the delphi board that flipped the stocker around and that looks really good. He has an aftermarket pad on it though. I wonder if the stock pad is too thick and I would be pushed forward?

Just thought I'd add this to the chat.
I now make a solo rack for the 1600 Nomads.
I got 3 requests in 9 days for one so I decided to start making them again.
It bolts to the frame just like my regular racks do and will hold a large trunk without a problem.

I haven't gotten the info on them on my web site yet, but I'm working on it.

OP;

I haven't seen Sprirello on the site lately; but if you can find one of his old posts you'll see his soloed-Nomad. It is one of the better looking solo-Nomad I have seen out there. In fact... I think the Nomad looks its best when in solo format.

Just my two-cents.

From Day One, my wife said she wouldn't ride. So I went solo with inspiration from others on this forum.

I put plastic/chrome covers that you buy at auto stores for license plate bolts ($2.95 for 4) to cover the heads of the bolts that held the seat on. I have a Mustang leather cover but decided I liked this better.

So is that a grasshopper backrest. I have one and am wondering what I could do to make that look better without the passenger seat to hide it.

Many of you going solo?

Have you given up on the DNA-encoded fantasy about the incredible beauty who has broken down/is hitchhiking/LOVES metric cruisers/{or insert your scenario-starter here} and you just happen to arrive at the exact moment that the person-in-distress (I'm trying to be nongender-specific to demonstrate that I've paid attention during those yearly training sessions) has just made a personal vow to REALLY reward the rescuer?

Are you consciously fighting the natural order of things or what?

Solo seats threaten the survival of the species, people! (at least at the "certain urges" level.) Have you transcended? Is it the fluoride in the water?

I run my bike solo set-up 80% of the time. I will be purchasing an Ultimate solo seat that has the backrest insert into the drivers seat. Really the best set up on a Nomad. You can find out more information at: http://www.ultimateseats.ca/Kawasaki1500.html

Yes, that is Grasshopper's backrest. I was concerned at first that it wouldn't look good without the rear seat to hide the bracket. But I find I hardly notice it since the black bracket blends in so well with the black leather on the seat and backrest.

Great thanks. I might keep it after all then. I am one of the few that like the stock seat. I seldom ride more than 400 in a day and have not had any complaints yet. I suppose if I were to ride farther than that I may consider an aftermarket.

It is nice to have a green/silver example too. I can see exactly what it looks like.

After several hours of searching, I have come to the conclusion that this model may be discontinued. But, I did find the rack on ebay. And it is a lot cheaper than what I remember paying for it. Show Chrome made this rack for the Yamaha Road Star. Lucky for us the fender holes abd curve match up almost perfect. I did have to put a very slight bend in the front mount bracket to follow the curve of the fender under my seat. I believe that I elongated the front mounting hole a 1/4 of an inch for the bolt line up. As you see in my photo I have the mustang fender bib under it. Here is the link to the ebay page.

I hope you enjoy the look of the solo with the rack as much as much as I do. The wife really likes the look as well.

The Nomad is one bike out there that should either be decked out or stripped down to solo for appearance in my opinion. It looks great either way. It handles very nicely as a solo and with a rack you can carry tons of stuff when travelling...Bdog

Howdy neighbor,

It is main street Jasper but the other location is 38 Avenue and 55 Street at the Mohawk gas station.
