Fortunately, it was already dead. I made the mistake of riding in the center of the lane without enough reaction time from the car in front. Luckily I just rolled over it without incident. A rather soft bump I might add. No residual entrails on the bike.

Note to self; ride in left or right part of lane when following vehicles.

he could have been dead in the right or left part of the lane, then you still hit him. Most of the time when you hit something following another care is following too close and not enough reaction time, and then you say oh sh*t. :-)

Possums have even made there way up to this part of the contiment the last few years, but you don't see them on the roads here to often. Racoons and skunks ar the main critters you see dead on the roads around here.

Never hit a possum but I have run through some deer gut / goo before and that was a slippery few seconds. Thankfully none sparyed up onto my clothes !!

The only other odd animal thing to happen to me was a bird hit me in the chest and fell into my lap (dead on impact).

You're correct Markus. Riding the tread path of the vehicle in front of you is safer than the center of the lane. A car or truck will straddle road kill or debris but will not run over it if they spot it in time.

Good point Markus!

Glad you through it OK. When I first started riding in 2005 I was out on a country road and ran over a chicken! It jumped out of some tall grass in a ditch and thump-thump, it was over.

So, I'll never know why the chicken crossed the road... :)

Because it wanted a ride on your Nomad?

I've never even seen a possum. Around here it's skunks and jackrabbits. If you're lucky you might see the occasional javelina with a Goodyear hairdo.

I'm seeing more and more dead armadillos on the road here in Gerogia.

Wish they would go back to Texas or wherever they immigrated from.

Here it's mostly dead deer, coyotes, raccoons, rabbits and marmots. Lots of road kill.

Had a wise old tire man once tell me that the majority of tire punctures he has had over the years come not from nails and screws but from -----animal bones!!

Don't hit the armadillos, they are tough. Nothing smells like a dead armadillo, buzzards won't even eat them! After it has dried for several days the crows will start picking at one.

I don't think it was already dead I am sure it was playing possum

Jesse, Buzzards consider armadillos a delicacy down here. I've seen over 20 fighting over 1 armadillo. Never see them on a dog though.
