Someone will be along shortly to answer your question..
What year of Nomad do you have?
What year of Nomad do you have?
I don't have one YET but plan on one by the end of the year. Just trying to plan all the mods while I stuff the piggy bank a bit more to get one.

I've got almost 9000 miles on Dunlop SP5000 195/60R-16. Still have 5mm of tread left. Should be good for at least another 10-15K.
Based on my past M/C tire wear, I would be replacing rear tire. Never got over 9K on M/C rear tire.
I have noticed tire is wearing a little less than 1mm more in the center than outer tread.
Recently lower the air pressure to 29lbs.

I've got 12,500 + on mine, and it has hardly any wear yet.

Question: Who do you get to mount this type of tire on your bike, beside yourself?

American Ironhorse in Huntsville, TX. They may make you sign a waiver, exemping them from all responsibility. They said they made me sign a waver, but all I signed was the credit card slip. They charged $75 for removing everything, mounting and balancing the tire, and putting everything back on.

If you go to the delphi darkside forum, they have a database that includes where people got their tire mounted.

I found out about a little custom wheel shop who did mine for $15. That's just a dismount and mount, I took them the wheel off the bike.

5,000 and counting, that 81 feet of rubber missing from last Sat night doesn't even show.
I had to mount mine myself, as no one would, no bike shop no car shop... But i am pretty rurl with out lots of local choices, and used to do this to eat once.

Got a question? How do the car tires handle the sharp corners and curves? It's a flat-looking tire and motorcycle tires are sorta round for the curves. Always wondered if you rode the sidewalls or what. Don't seem they were made for sharp turns. Jamie

jamie, this will give you an idea of how car tires handle curves.
As the picture shows, does not ride on the sidewalls,

I only have 3200 miles on my Nomad and I have the stock Bridgestone tires on it. I can't tell that I have any wear on front or back. When I owned the 2007 Honda VTX1300R I started noticing that the front tire wore on the left side. I showed it to the service mangager and he told me it is the way roads are designed that causes the front tire to wear out on the left side first. Has anyone had this problem with their Nomad?

If you live and ride in an area with heavily crowned roads, the left side will wear faster than the right side.
Since I am lucky to get 9k out of a tire, it probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference. My tires wear out in the center.

Thanks for your input Cactusjack. What are your thoughts on the car tire on the rear?

I have had mine on for a little over a month, about 600 miles. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

I agree that I should have done it sooner after putting miles on the new CT tire yesterday. It does feel like more rubber on the road. Tried locking the rear tire up without using the front. Mac really must have stomped on that rear brake to lock it up for 75 or 80 feet. No problems going around turns. Tire seems to dig in when accellerating in a turn.
Of course these are only first impressions.
In all the posts about going to the darkside, BD and Mac were 100% correct in everything they said about the CT.
Way to go guys.........

I find the CT is more stable, and I can drag hard parts and feel better about it than I did on the mc tire...

I have been wanting a CT on my 99/ 1500 Nomad for a long time but all I've seen were 1600 bikes with CT on them.
Question... what size would fit my 99 Nomad... anyone know??

Hi Mike,
isaiahsdad (a member here) has a Dunlop SP5000 195/60-16 on his 99/1500. No clearance issues.

Yea, what Yellow Jacket said :)
1999 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad with a Dunlop SP5000 195/60-16 fit like a dream with PLENTY of clearance, and what a ride! My bike is black though, I am not sure if the tire will fit on a blue, or red bike. Close on the green ones I think. :)

I read a post last night on the Delphi DS forum about a SP 5000 wearing down to 3mm in the center with only 10,000 miles. Running too high a pressure will wear the tire faster than normal in the center. A few of the guys are running 29 pounds for their sweet spot.

Yeah, I started out at about 43 lbs at first and then came down to 39. Stayed there for quite a while and noticed the very center starting to wear down. Started dropping it down and now I'm at 30. May even go a little lower.

My SP5000 is down to 2mm to the wear bars on the two center treads and 4mm total in little less than 10K miles. While I'm happy with the way the tire preforms I would not buy another Dunlop SP5000. Mileage should be much better that that.
Even if I just make to 17-18K, that still would be equivalent of two m/c tires.
According to the guru's on Darkside forum, "most" car tires seem to wear in the center regardless of air pressure.
For my next car tire, which will be next spring by the way present one is wearing, I'm going to take a look at Vredestein. Quite a few in 195/65-16.
