Rear End Oil Seal

Got some oil wicking up the drive shaft so I am thinking the seal is bad in the final drive. Anyone replace it themselves? Any tips or tricks I need to know before I tear it down?? Not much of a drip and doesn't do it all the time. Just get a quarter size 'puddle' every once in a while and it doesn't matter how far I drive. Could go 50 miles and no puddle after, or could do 10 and have a drip. Any suggestions? And this started before I put my ct on. Should have tore it down then but didn't have the time or the seal. Thanks guys.

Hi, Ringadingh on here did his recently and posted photos. Maybe you can do a search and find them or contact him. I took my final drive off and took it to the dealers for them to do it.
It cost me $180 Canadian if I remember correctly. Talk to the dealer to order the parts ahead of time (a seal, O rings, and a large nut that is tabbed over) as they will likely not have them in stock. That way your downtime is reduced.

Its not that difficult to do yourself, if your handy, Its a $8.00 seal that you need to replace, there is a tool the recomend that you use to remove the lock collar but I used a drift punch and tapped it out with that, the lock collar is a lh thread, and is also held in place with a small setscrew that needs to be loosened first. The important thing is to look closely where the seal sits in the collar, and replace it in the same place. There is a lot of room to put the seal in either to deep or not deep enough. Also polish the pinion shaft a bit with some emery cloth before reassembly.
Try to find the thread here as it has some pics of what youll be getting into. You only need to remove the pinion shaft, the ring gear is not to be removed unless that seal is leaking. If the ring gear seal is bad it will throw oil all over the tire sidewall.

Be sure to ck and top off that oil untill the work is done. The so called 6.2 ounces isn't very much oil in the first place.
