Just curious what else you were giving consideration to when you bought your first Nomad?

Back in 99 when I bought mine I was looking at the Concourse; would have looked even closer if was updated like it is now.

Also looked at the Honda Valkyrie.

I wanted to tour which all three do just fine, but I went with the Nomad because of the looks (it's the best looking of the three) and because it had a slow enough top speed to keep me safer than my own good sense would allow.

What were you considering?

I was considering the Honda VTX 1300 or 1800 or the Kawa Mean Streak. All were nice, but once I saw the deal for the Nomad w/ all the extras, I knew I couldn't go wrong there!! Never a moment of regret in that decision either!

I looked at the HD Ultra and wing. Ultra...no interest in, Wing I would still consider but I don't want to give up the Nomad.

Well, at the time I bought the Nomad, my top bike choices were the Yamaha Venture and the Honda Valkyrie Interstate, but I've got to have a v-twin and until I can afford both I'll go with the Nomad. I did have a Road Star for the weekend while my Valkyrie Standard was tied up and that was one sweet bike too, but I think the Nomad just squeezes it out.

I knew the Nomad was what I wanted step up to from my Suzuki Intruder 800. One of the guys in my riding group had one so I knew what I was gonna look for and the rest is history.

Thought real close about the Honda 1800 and the Venture...in the end there ain't nuthin that beats the Nomad for looks, travel and value.

I looked at everything comparable in the class. I had never heard of the Nomad. The HD was very pricey and I came very close to ordering the Peace Officer's Special. I have an original 1981 Yamaha 650 Heritage Special (now registered as an antique) in my garage so I took a serious look at the yamaha brand. I figured that, while I was there, I would browse through the Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki cruisers just to look. The mechanic at the motorcycle shop told me about the Kawasaki Vulcan, which was a damn nice motorcycle. After we talked about what I was looking for in my new ride, he told me about the Nomad. I bought it and have been very happy with my purchase.

The wife and I went to the IMS in New York. Checked out as many bikes as we could to fit two up riding and the wife said we liked the Nomad the best! It is the best all around in its class. Thats what she said we think.

After over 20 years on Ventures I looked hard at the new Style Venture- but??? Nahh! I liked the Wing but up here for the money?? Nah! I have an 800 Drifter which has been a very good scooter and I have friends who have had Nomad's since the start so the only thing was what Fairing/ Trunk setup to go with?? Then since they were giving the 06's away for cheap and the Premiux set up wasn't that bad I thought What the Heck go for it - and I'm not sorry I did!!

My 03 Meanstreak was my first Vulcan.I'd decided I wanted something better for long hauls so the Nomad was a natural choice. I just couldn't part with the Meanstreak though,so I have them both now. I've since added 2" risers, a Memphis Shades 17" shield, and Kuryakyn floorboards to the Meanstreak and that makes it a nice road bike as well. Both bikes are stock as far as performance goes.

Suzuki C90T or C109RT, I didn't seriously consider Star or Harley due to air-cooling. It just didn't make sense to me where I live and ride. What pushed me to the Nomad was the fact that I had a C50T at the time, and felt Suzuki really cut some corners on it. Wimpy brakes, plastic everywhere, and I didn't particularly care for the local dealer. The C90T has a tiny tank and some of the same el-cheapo stuff as the C50T, and the C109RT wasn't out yet at the time. I saw the Nomad, fell in love with it, and here I am.

My first street bike was a 1979 Yamaha 650 special. I have fond memories of that bike, though I remember it shaking everything pretty good.

I was only 17 when I got it, and didn't know about lock tite. I couldn't keep the chain guard on for nothing. It would always shake loose and all of a sudden scare the crap out of me going down the road as it dropped onto the chain and made a racket.

If I was ever in your neighborhood, I'd swing by to have a look at it. :)

Seeing as I had a Yamaha I looked at them first. The V Star 1300 looked good and the Royal Star Deluxe was also in the running.
Was looking through the Cycle World buyers guide and saw the Nomad , showed the pic to Cindy and asked what she thought. She said, " I will drive you to the Kawasaki dealer, lets go."

I had a Bright Red Honda ST1300 all negotiated at the dealer and was suppose to pick it up with the money in hand and just couldn't do it!

Got real close to a BMW R1200RT but the dealer didn't look like his service shop was worth a crap and not may Beemer dealers for motorcycle's are around here.

Honda Gold Wing loaded but just too much at 24K fully loaded with everything. Still might do it one day.

I was looking at the Yamaha Roadstar, or Honda Shadow (briefly, dismissed that one pretty quickly) and Suzuki Volusia. Was not opposed to HD, but there was no way one would fit within my budget. Once I found my NAD I knew I had to have it. Still love this bike!

Like all of you, I did my due diligence....I researched bikes for months. I sat down and made a list of what I had to have:

- Must be 1500 cc's or above
- Must be shaft drive
- Must be water cooled
- Must have basic accessories (windshield, engine guard, hard bags)

After considering everything that met those qualifications, I finally narrowed the list down to two. The Honda GoldWing and the Kawasaki Nomad. I had never owned a twin before, but when I talked to over 10 Nomad owners, all I got were glowing comments about the ride of the Nomad and longevity.

Plus, I loved the way the Nomad looked......and the price was right. $13,000 for a new Nomad, fully loaded with all the accessories versus a GoldWing at $19,500 that could have used a few more accessories.

So....my choice was clear.

Yamaha Road Star Silverado in Pearl White (2006) was the other choice. I rode a friends Road Star and liked it! But look at the passenger pegs; they put her feet up higher than the Nomad.
The more we looked at everything, the Nomad got the nod.
We aren't sorry. But...1600cc is my upper limit. Never considered the 2K Vulcan, Stratoliner, GW, VTX 1800, Suzuki 109... no need for all those cc's imo.

It wasn't a huge decision, I liked the Nomad and the Ultra,s. The Nomad won by a landslide in the budget dept. Especially when I found my bike on the net with all the toys, and fairing already installed it didn,t take long to decide.

02-04-2008, 09:17 PM
I owned a Suzuki Intruder for 5 1/2 years, and had been lusting after a Nomad for three and half of those. LOL! . Almost bought an Ultra, but the Nomad won out.

40,000 totally problem-free miles on the Nad's little brother, VN800B, the next step up was obvious. Thought about HD for about 5 seconds and test drove a Wing but there was no excitement about the ride, Nomad deal closed.

The nomad was a no brainer. I traded in an 01 1500 classic with over 51,000 trouble free miles on it. At that time, it was best bike that I had ever owned. But this nomad ?! "I'm lovin it".

Like Trip, I had basically the same criteria.
Shaft drive
1300 cc or better
liquid cooled
touring accessories
I narrowed it down to Yamaha or Kawasaki , I really liked the 07 red/silver but walked into local dealer and at the entrance was a 07 blk/silver 6 weeks old and 1500 miles for $11.3 ... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif end of story.
The P/O traded it in for a new wing, because his wife liked the passenger seat better. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

I made the mistake of meeting some wing riders in the hotel in Custer SD, and letting my wife go around the parking lot on the wing.

She also liked the passenger seat much better on the wing.

That's the motivation for the trunk project that I'm doing.

Wouldn't part with the nomad. One of use is goeing to ride the other one into the ground, Which ever comes first. I have been looking at a second bike, either the 900 kawa or 1300 yamaha.

I had my mind set on a HD heritage softail, whilst looking in my local HD dealership i spotted a Meanstreak, i thought if that had a better seat, screen and bags that would be one classy bike, so i started looking at the Kawasaki range and spotted the bike of my dreams http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif and like all you guys i have never looked back.

Was looking at the Kawasaki 2k, but am another that didn't care for the bags or belt drive, then looked at the Star line, but really didn't like the 'roadliner' design, that left me with the Nomad, The Gold Wing and the new Concourse. I thought the Concourse was a bit too close to my old Bandit set-up and wanted a 'new' biking approach and we had a lot of friends with HD's, so the Nomad won out. Price certainly didn't hurt http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I love the bike and have had a lot of fun customizing it ot be what I want in the past three months. Just a few more tweaks and it will be perfect.

Now, if Kawasaki ever makes a shaft driven 2k with hard bags, I'll consider that, but the compairson will be with a Screaming Eagle Street Glide. I'm thinking in 4-5 years it will be HD's 110 anniversary and I still like the Street Glide concept a lot.

Bought my first Kawa a 800 Classic in '04 aug, a very nice bike, good drivebility. In '04 nov I became a second 800 Classic, that I complete restored in the winter of '04/'05. In '05 febr I trade in my both 800's at Bob's (my local dealer) for my first Nomad a '00 1500 Fi, this bike gaves me lots of pleasure and fun, after a period of 26 months and 22.000 km further I trade in my 1500 for my present '05 1600 Nomad.

The 1600 is for me the ultimate bike, the drivebility, performance and finish is in my opinion much better than the 1500

Enjoy every km on this ride!

I really liked the looks of the Harley Road King. I read the Harley forums for months and learned a lot, some good and some not so good. I also wanted to give "buy American" a fair shot but I just couldn't justify the cost. I also looked at Victory and liked the Touring Cruiser and then I found they were discontinued. One day surfing m/c sites I discovered the Nomad. It had everything I was looking (and more) for a very reasonable price. No regrets, no compromise. This is a excellent machine.

I picked the Nomad because it was a large cool looking cruiser with all the features I needed for short trips and cruising around town. Someday I think I am going to try the Wing.

Had a Suzi Volusia with 47,000 miles and wanted a bigger bike. Rode a Victory Kingpin but really wanted a shaft drive, besides the Victory engine was too noisy and the tank too narrow. (personal preference) Also rode a Suzi M109. Sweet ride. Awesome, smooth power, quiet engine. I WANTED one but figured that to make it fit with saddlebags, windshield, engine guards, floorboards, passenger backrest, risers, new handlebars etc. was going to cost a mint. Rode the Nomad and really liked it. The a$$ end kind of threw me off. Looked a mile wide. Went home for two days and pondered it and decided that for the money there was NOTHING even close to the value. Another test drive and I was sold. BTW, my bike is red so I figured that the wide view was a good thing.

After having smaller bikes I had a 79 wing and then a 06 wing, then got bored and bought a honda shdow ace tourer, sold that last year and almost got another wing again but the nomad had been on my mind for awhile so I looked and found a carryover black nomad and got it.

I went to trade my 04 1600 Classic on an 07 V2K Classic LT but
while the dealer was doing the paperwork, I kept sitting on this Nomad and by the time he came back ready for me to sign, I told him to change to the Nomad.
Now, to be truthful, I've always been partial to an Electra Glide. Trained as a DC Metro Officer on one in 1970 and have always wanted one. Now that I've got a few things paid off, I may buy one. I'd like a Police lease turn in that's been tricked out a little.
I also like the Nightster and the Super Glide :-) as well as a dozen other bikes. ;)
Ride safe,
Dano

Yami RoadStar; Yami Stratoliner; Honda vtx1800; HD RoadKing or ElectraGlide. Came d**n close on the RoadStar. Saw 2 used Strat's, one was an exceptional bike but too $$$ even used; and the HD's were, of course, realistically out of my price range (even used!).

I am very pleased with my decision. If money were no object though, I'd be on that one Strat... man it was decked out and sweet!

My first bike when getting back to riding was a 1997 1500A. Loved it. After a couple of years and deciding that for the long haul I may want another bike. Was really only looking at a Nomad but did glance at some other bikes. None really fit right except the Nomad. Bought a 1999 and upgraded to a 2006.

I looked at & rode just about everything out there, and it came down to the Nomad and the Victory in 02, and it came down to the wife who liked the look and ride of the Nomad more.
So we bought our 1st Nomad. Then in 07 I still liked the Victory Kingpin Tour which has a killer engine and handles very well but don't quite measure up to the "Nomad Ride" and then the Kawasaki dealer makes me an offer I can't refuse so we now have an 07 Nomad. But I still love the Victory. (maybe someday) I'm not very big 5'9" 190 but as has been said by many I tried the Goldwing and loved the handling and ride but really felt cramped. I guess I could get used to it, but for a diff. in price of $10,000 why bother trying?
