Last night I installed my latest modification, the Longhorn Offset Dually Hihgway Pegs from Kuryakyn. They run about $150.00, but they are well worth it. They offer a wide and comfortable foot rest with an unusual, but very cool spike for the heal of your foot to rest on. When flipped up while not using them, man do they add a huge chunk of chrome to your bike.
Here is a picture of them: http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.cfm/go/Home.ProductDetail/catID/18/scID/53/IMID/460
My riding position has toally changed, and for the better. My grasshopper backrest hits me in a better location on the back, my arms don't seem as stretched for the handlebar anymore, and the overall position of your legs is extremely comfortable.
I purchased these over the Show Chrome and others becuase they are so damn adjustable. You can turn and twist these big guys any way imaginable to create a custom mounting position that is just right for you, doesn't matter if you are 5'0" or 7'0".
Anyone who doesn't have highway pegs on thier Nomad, and is looking to get some, I highly recommend these.

Ive had highway pegs on the bike since Ive owned it and didn't really use them the first season. After that I got used to having them there, and they are great on long trips, giving you more choices to move around and get comfortable.

+1 on the Longhorn Duallys....gives you tons of adjustment.
I added some kuryakan pegs to my Nomad days before I went on a trip. 1700 miles in 4 days, including 12 1/2 hours straight the first day. They enabled me to change my seat position and even though I have the stock seat, I never felt my butt hurt. That made them worth the price.

I added those pegs a few years back. Then they didnt come with the stri-up, but I love the adjustablity.

Doc,
I put the ones you have on my wifes old Shadow to replace the stock footpegs. The ones that I just added, the LongHorns with the Stir-up are great also. The extra little strip for your heal makes a difference.
Mainly I am just amazed at how different I sit in the seat when I am using them. Anyone looking at an expensive seat because thier butt goes numb on long trips, or who think they need a 3+ inch riser, should get some good highway pegs first, just to see what they think after cruising with highway pegs.
Between the new pegs, and the Grasshopper backrest, my stock seat feels a hell of a lot more comfy!!!

I've had Hwy pegs on my last two bikes and love them. They also give a bit of added protection---in a tip over--I speak from experience.

I have some cheap highway pegs and love them. Maybe someday I will upgrade to the kury pegs.

I have some good ones too and don't take my feet off them. I am 6'3" and love the stretch no matter how long the ride. I don't feel right on a bike without them. Good choice, enjoy!

Anyone have a hint where would be the best place to get some longhorn pegs?

check either http://www.meancycles.com or http://www.phatperformanceparts.com.
Also I have these and they are great, but use some blue loctite. Mine kept coming loose until I did that. Now nary a problem.

I just have the regular pegs, about $90. I put mine on about 3 months ago and use them every time I get on my bike, even if in the city. I'm so use to them, it feels weird putting my boots on the boards. I just put my heel on the boards and my toes on the pegs. Couldn't use the bigger ones, anyway. Two knee operations (one on each knee) make it impossible to keep my legs straight for long periods. Got to bend them just a little to be comfortable.

Rick,
If you are looking at getting the Longhorns, I highly recommend getting them from Dennis Kirk. Find the cheapest price you can find on the Internet for them, and then give Dennis Kirk a call and they will beat the price. Plus, you'll have them on your doorstep two days later without paying for 2 day shipping.
I am 5' 10" and I had to re-adjust mine yesterday. After taking a highway cruise out to Jackson to see Chuckster, I realized I had them too close, and moved them outward by placing the mounting brakcet on the outside of the crash bars instead of on the inside of the crash bars. They feel great now!

Brian,
How are the other new mod's treatin ya?
Hwy pegs are difinately the way to go with the nomad. Mine too are ajustable..with the pegs so close to the floorboards it gives me many options of foot posistions. No clearance problems..floorboards will grind first. I would have a hard time going any distance now if I didn't have them. Bdog

I've had highway pegs on my bikes ever since I started riding. It's almost a necessity for my longs legs. I took a cue from others here and have them just a little higher than the floorboards - gives the option to have your feet either on the boards, 1/2on-1/2 off the pegs, or just on the pegs. Wonderful addition.
And a big +1 on the blue Loctite! Ann had one of hers fall off during a ride last winter, and you cannot buy them but in pairs. Luckily a chap here on the board lost the one side I happened to have as a spare, so recovered 1/2 the cost - worked out for the both of us!

+1...LocTite. After only having my LongHorns on for a couple of weeks, it didn't take long for the left side to come loose while riding. Had to put my foot on it just make sure it made the trip home with me.
My concern about the LockTite, just as with my rifle scopes, is that once you put that stuff on, it is near impossilble to get the damn bolts/screws out again.
Those who put LockTite on theirs, have you ever been able to re-adjust them again if needed?

I've had no problems using blue locktite

You sure you used the blue locktite and not the red? If it's red, I hear it's near impossible to get loose.

I put the same set on and I was amazed at how much difference they make, especially for my knees and back.
