Sounds like a great location. I recently went through that area--it should be a lot of fun!

I don't know about you all, but to me posting here and in "our" board is pretty redundant. I like just keeping up with what's going on in one place, the southwest board.
I suppose when things are decided putting a notice with the details here might not hurt, but there are too many boards on this site as it is, without giving us a new one to have to check in on.
Just my opinion :)

It's been nearly a month since anyone posted in here. Do we have lodging information for the rally yet?

Not yet. I do know the Super 8 is booked thru Monday. Trying to look into another motel (Budget Host).

I'm still up in the air on it..... I have a ride up to a buddy of mine in Grants Pass OR around the same time that would get first dibs depending on my vacation requests.

Sorry we don't have more activity and a solid plan in place yet guys. I have just been slammed at work ever since Custer (actually, during Custer if you recall), so Joel has been spearheading this for us. It's my understanding that the dates are pretty much set, just not the venue.
I did manage to get away with some of the local VROC crowd for a great ride over the Labor Day weekend (Waterman posted some pics in the trip report section), but other than that I haven't been able to come up for air for quite awhile.
Maybe you all should impeach me! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Have you considered looking at hotels in Durango? It's only about 40 miles away from Cortez, but a larger and nicer city. It also might be more $$ which is what we don't want. Just throwing the idea out there...it might be worth looking into.

There's a really nice Best Western in Cortez if you don't mind my butting in. I've stayed there and there is plenty of rooms and plenty of parking.

You're always welcome to butt in Al. Of course, this means you have to join us at the SW rally now! :)

I stayed in Cortez last summer. Although the motels are overpriced. The riding was great. The highlight was the road into Mesa Verde National Park. I recommend this for the day ride.

Since this area is so popular for vacationers, shouldn't we get a motel picked out so we can get reservatons?

Waterman was working out the final details. He told me he was waiting for one particular venue to get back with him and then he would make the call.
I've been on the road so much that I turned it all over to him because I simply don't have the availability to run down the details. Not even sure right now if I can even attend, but I'm sure hoping.

Are we firm on these dates, so I can get my time off request turned in? It's first come-first served when requesting time off where I work.
Ever since a few of us met up for that 550 ride a couple years ago I've wanted to take my wife up there. If I can get some time off work I'd love to meet up with you guys for a day or two at the rally. No guaranteee cause they're being friggin' STINGY with time off work. My wife likes road trips and I know she'd love to see some of you knuckleheads again. Maybe I can tag along behind the pack somewhere, the top off on the jeep is almost as good as the Nomad....

Hey man, it would be great to see you and Candace again! Sure missed ya in Custer last June.
Keep us posted. Here's hoping.
And yes, I love a Jeep in the mountains with the top off. It's the next best thing to a motorcycle.
