dui's thread on speeding started bring up some people's pet peeves about other drivers. Lets get them all out http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>
I hate it when people don't use signals.
To me driving is something that involves taking everything around you into consideration. If you aren't doing that, your just steering your car, not driving.
So, for instance, if I'm driving on a multi lane road in the right lane, nobody behind me, but a couple of cars in the left lane, and I see a car on a side street waiting to pull out, I might change lane (emptying the right lane) so they can pull out. To me that's driving, not steering.
So I HATE it when I'm waiting to pull out onto a street and a car turns onto the street I'm waiting to pull out of without signaling. It makes the most difference in residential neighborhoods, because at such low speeds there isn't a whole lot of slowing down to take the corner, making it not so obvious that they are turning.
Many times with my wife I say out loud to myself in those situations, IF YOU HAD USED YOUR SIGNAL, I'D BE DOWN THE ROAD ALREADY!
I hate waiting for somebody to pass so I can pull out, only to have them turn in right where I'm at with no signal.
Of course there are other turn signal violation peeves, but in general, I hate it when people don't signal! http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>
What do you hate?
People that stop or slow down on acceleration lanes...that one kills me along with the people already on the multilane highway that do not merge into the left lane, when there is no other traffic there, so the ones entering the highway can get on.
BTW...I never trust a signal. Worked with automobile claims over 20 years...everyone should use them..but never trust them...grandma will forget to turn it off and run right over you.

People who move to the left before turning right.
People who go below the speed limit, or constantly speed up and then slow down.

I can't stand people stopping in the middle of the street to either try to find the address they are looking for or to talk to someone they know. When I'm in my diesel truck and there is room I slowly pass on the drivers side and then STAND ON IT!
As a truck driver the 3 main things that piss me off are:
#1 http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x4/sjmarsing/smileys/mad.gif The left turners who don't get all the way over into the left turn lane. I think they have a fear of oncomming traffic but they fail to realize there are other vehicles comming from behind that don't want to turn left and that the safest place for them is CENTERED in the left turn lane (not straddling the line). Come on people - If I can center a big-rig in between two lines I know you can do it in your car!
#2 http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x4/sjmarsing/smileys/shruggy.gif You wouldn't believe how often this happens on the freeway but I don't understand why when I have my left turn signal on to move over a lane (ie if I find myself in an exit only lane), cars coming up from behind me in my lane pass me on the left only to cut right back in front of me and exit do they not understand that if they would just stay put I would get out of their way and then they could go by me as fast as they want and they wouldn't even have to switch lanes to exit! I swear it happens daily
#3 http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x4/sjmarsing/smileys/shortbus2.gif Applies to MOST utah drivers. They merge on the freeway at 50 mph without even looking and EXPECT the freeway flow to merge to them. They get over at the first possible second rather than using the full acceleration lane to get their speed up to 70. I ran one lady right off the road the other day that did this. Sorry but with tripple trailers I'm close to 100 feet long and I can't just get out of your way if you want to merge on at 45, without taking out 10 cars next to me.
You know that you're in Salt Lake City when slow people drive in the middle, people pass on the right, and the cars in the left lane are trying to exit

How about watching 2-3 cars go thru a red light because it just turned red. It is bad enough I may get run over when my light turns green because the idiot behind me is watching the lights and not me. I always hate being the first one at a stop light.

As I said on the other thread: Cell phones and slow drivers!! People who camp out in the left lane and insist on going the exact speed limit regardless of the flow of traffic. Or guys hauling large items in their pickup and being in the left lane instead of being to the right where there is less danger of causing a major accident.
Have to say it...Asian drivers.

People who block lane changes.
Denver does this so much more than Salt Lake, turning on your turn signal to move over a lane makes the car behind you, that's in the lane your going over to, all of a sudden speed up.
Must be a territorial thing.
Here's a tip buddy, if I was way behind you, and now I'm passing you, guess what, I'm not going to be slowing you down, you don't need to block me.
When I'm not on my bike, I move over anyway and they have to suddenly get rid of the extra 10mph that they suddenly accelerated to keep me out.
In those situations, my turn signals are a courtesy telling you what I AM GOING TO DO, not me asking your permission.

Especially a left turn red!
People who block lane changes.
I talked to another trucker who got so tired of this that he started signaling the opposite way when changing lanes . He says it works great!

I hate it when i am driving(especially in the snow) and some jerk comes right up on my rear like they are invincible. I am already doing atleast 5-10 over the speed limit and you want to ride my butt!!!!! I don't think so!!!!! I have and always will, slam on my brakes and scare the $@#% out of them. I don't care, hit me, you are the one liable for following to close.
I also hate it when i am on the interstate and no one cares to let semi trucks over. I tell you what i would rather let them over then see an accident happen because i didn't let them over or even when they are coming on to the interstate. I will always let them go first!!

When people go slow, then when you are attempting to pass them, they suddenly speed up to stay alongside you, then slow back down as you slow.

1.Cagers who cut into your lane, after looking, but still feel it's ok to cut the safe distance between you and the car ahead of you. THEY piss me off.
2. Fast lane drivers who pace the other lanes thereby blocking both lanes (or more if the rest of the pack is all driving the same speed) and THEN don't have the wherewithall, alertness or consideration to move the f--k over and let traffic flow through. They need to be severly beaten as well... http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

So far... I'm +1 with ALL of you!!! Specially the ones that try and prevent you from changing lanes. When I'm in my truck... I put my turn signal on...count to 3...and head on over. Like Dan said...I'm already passing you...probably in the right friggin lane anyway cause you're a left lane hog/traffic monitor/cell phone talking, non paying attention goof ball... and now you want to hurry up cause you don't want to be behind a truck... Not a problem... slow the hell back down and get into the RIGHT lane where you belong anyway!
What kills me also is the people in the RIGHT lane that won't let you merge in either... I was trying to merge into the right lane to prepare for my exit that was coming up in about 1.5 miles away... Car would speed up to block me... so I would slow down to get behind them... they would slow down to block me... back and forth one more time with the same results... I was in a mustang... dropped it a gear...kept the clutch in for a second or two...slowing down even more... the punched it... Took off like a bat out of hell and blew his doors off to move into the right lane to exit... and WHOOSH... there's a (sorry dui and JJ...don't mean to offend) damn trooper hidding under the under pass before my exit. OF course...got a ticket. If I could have found that guy later... I would have taken $300 out of his hide!!
One more thing that pisses me off...specially around here since I live out towards the country. Bicycle Ridders!!! These weekend warriors who apparently are training for the next Tour de France!! I have no problem with people who choose to ride their bikes in the country... better scenery, less traffic, etc... but please stay single file!! These dumb a$$es will ride 3 & 4 wide down twisty country roads... I don't care if they have the right of way or not... they'll still loose in a battle with a motor vehicle!! I was pulling my horse trailer the other day... stopped at a red light.. next thing I know I'm SWARMED by bicycle ridders. Left, Right, and Behindf me... I had 2 who chose to stop next to me on my right and use my truck and trailer as a stand. 3 more on my left side. Light turned green and I'm the first in line... I floor it... thus the HUGE cloud of black smoke from my tail pipe... All I could think about while laughing my head off was the old Jerry Clower joke w/ the guy's suspenders caught on the side of a car mirror!!! LOL!
Oh well.. You asked for my rant... ya got it.

Drivers talking on cell phones. I understand some states have laws against it unless they're hands free. Georgia ain't one of em.

I call it a slow motion drag race.
Another peeve is people that can't figure out how to do a 4 way stop. Either they go to soon, or not soon enough.
The one that annoys me the most is the one that waits for you to get there, rather than just going.
Or the "you go first" wars going on in front of you, and there's nothing you can do but wait for the two good samaritans to battle out who is the kindest that day http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>

I don't know about out west but here on the east coast a lot of insurance companies have told trucking companies that if they don't put govenors on the trucks the insurance rates will go up. I just love it when a 69 MPH truck is trying to pass a 68 MPH truck.

+1,+1,+1,+1,+1 and more. I guess we just have to realize that there are a bunch of @$&*#@$ drivers on the road at any given time. I try my best to just shake my head and laugh at them. I'll be d*mned if I'll let them stress me into a heart attack!!!
Let me throw another in there..and I am sorry if I offend someone (if you're offended then as my buddy JussMatt says, you are guilty...so learn to drive) ...but I am on the road all week long with work....most, not all, during the work week kind of drive ok..but holy crap...at about 3pm on Friday when the weekend drivers try to pretend the know how to drive on the interstate....they do ALL the afore mention things and then some.
Or the "you go first" wars going on in front of you, and there's nothing you can do but wait for the two good samaritans to battle out who is the kindest that day http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>
LOL DAN!
Oldbiker: I saw a bumpersticker that said ITS A CAR NOT A PHONEBOOTH
jussmatt: I hear you on the bicyclists! I understand they have the same rights cars do but what gets me is when they have a specific bike lane and they feel that they are too good for the bike lane and insist on peddling on the main drag and slow everyone down + they rarely if ever stop at stop signs.
Everything is pretty much covered here. But, to me,it seems the worst drivers are teen age GIRLS. Where the hell are they in such a hurry to get to? They are doing all the above mentioned things, and usually there are 4 or 5 of them in the car. I give them lots of room.

Not only are they talking on the phone, but they are text messaging as well! WTF???
Another peeve is people with little kids who are not secured in safety seats. I see it a lot in poorer populations. Kids who should be in a seat roaming around the car, without so much as a seatbelt!!! That's when I want a cop around!

My Number One Peeve
When cars start to move into my lane while I'm on my bike, and I honk my horn to get their attention and let them know I'm there, and they keep coming over anyway knowing I'm smaller and will move out of their way.
I remember one was on a multi lane off ramp and I was on the far left lane, a lady wanted to come over while I was next to her and I honked, she looked over and just kept on coming over.
That infuriates me. I'll almost forgive you for being dopey and not seeing me, but knowing full well that I'm there and you keep coming anyway is the thing that pisses me off more than anything.

Oh Dan, you've opened a can of worms here.
#3 Pet Peeve - People who cut across the gore point when entering/exiting the freeway. In case you don't know, the gore point is the triangular area between and on/off ramp or transition ramp and the traffic lanes of a freeway. Some dips..t always decides to exit the freeway late and cuts across it.
#2 Pet Peeve - People who can't merge smoothly. What I'm referring to is when a lane ends and merges on a freeway. I see it all the time. 4 lanes drops to 3 and there's a line of cars in the lane that ended, which slows down the right lane that continues, which pushes people to the next lane to the left, etc. During a commute, 95% of the people drive that route at the same time every day. They should realize they need to move over before the lane ends. The sign that says "Lane ends 1/4 mile" should give them a clue.
#1 Pet Peeve - "Line cutters" there is a line of cars on a street at a freeway on-ramp waiting to enter the freeway. The line of cars is 1/4 mile long and these jerks, instead of falling in at the back of the line, continue on and try to cut in at the front. Anybody in the Phoenix area who has tried to get on I-10 E from the 143 S knows what I mean. I will make them hit my car before I will let them in ahead of me. Same thing applies to lane closures for construction, they should join the line at the back instead of trying to cut in ahead. This one gets under my skin more than any other.
I could go on and on, but these are my top 3.
Add to this the guy 3 lanes to the left who spies his exit 100 feet away and darn near makes a 90 degree right turn across all traffic lanes to get to the exit.
Here's another. I don't mean any disrespect to the big-rig truckers in the group, and it's not so much a pet peeve as an observation.
The example I'll use is I-40 W out of Albuquerque. As soon as you leave the western border of ABQ, there are a series of hills for the next 50 miles or so, and the freeway goes from 4 lanes to 2 in each direction. Since I-40 is a major E-W interstate, there is heavy tractor trailer traffic heading to the west coast. So the game begins, a truck doing 50 mph passes the truck in front of it doing 45 miles an hour up the hill. In the meantime, I'm doing 75 in my cage (the posted speed limit) getting held back by the passing truck, and it just continues from there. It's almost a game I play, and once I get past about 30 trucks, it's smooth sailing to the continental divide, where I hit another pack of trucks, and it starts all over again. I say it's a game because it helps pass the time on an otherwise boring stretch of road.

Wolfman, I've got a sticker on my helmet that says " Would that phone work better if it was stuck up your a$$".
Back when I was in drivers ed I remember them saying that statistically if you are involved in an accident you will most likely be hit by a 16 year old girl driving a white Volkswagon Cabriolet.

I am +1 with all, this happen to me I was on my way into work on my bike I was in the right lane on the two lane I-75, speed of most cars around 80 this was ok as I said I was in the right lane doing around 75 with no one anywhere around me I look in the mirror and see a car coming fast up behind me instead of changing lanes it pulls up on my a$$ (3-4 feet) again no one in the left lane, I wave then to move off my a$$ they don't, I move over do to up coming cars they stay with me I know this could have turn bad for me but I had a tape measure (in construction) so I pulled it off my side and acted as if I was trowing it they got the massage and back off. they stay back I saw them signaling to exit I know this is more rode rage then any should have but I got off in front of them, long storie short it turn out to three 16-17 year girls I ask them what the He(( they thought they were doing there anwser was they gave me the finger and drove off!! the moral they just don't give a #$#$$%^ and we can't change it please ride/drive safe because they are out to get us at any moment.
ride safe.
