View Full Version : Wanted to be the Miller Beer Guy

In the 3 -4 months since I got my Nomad I have enjoyed riding and the bond shared by riders of all kinds of bikes. I have especially enjoyed the support of you on this forum. Because of this forum I got the perception that Nomad riders were like kin. Well this weekend I had that perception shattered. During my weekend of cruising around the local coastline, I came across three different people riding Nomads and got snubbed, the worst was at a red light, this guy pulls up in the lane next to me on what I think was an 05 (Blue and Silver). So I glance over see the Nomad and shoot him a "hey nice bike". This guy looks at my bike does the up and down turns back eyes front and rolls forward without saying a word, not even a nod. I was thinking what the f***, my 02 not good enough...
When the light changed I rolled past him shot a grin and shook my head.
Yeah, okay I expect to get snubbed by the occasional Harley guy, because my purchase of a Kawasaki makes me non-patriotic, despite my ten years of military service, but not by a fellow Nomad rider.
I wanted to tke his Nomad away and give it to some one more worthy... ya know like the guy in the Miller beer commercials, when he takes the beer away from those not worthy.

It must of been stolen or borrowed. Nomad owners wouldn't do that!

Very unlike anything I have encountered. You must have been down on the south shore. Up here on the North Shore I have always gotten waves and conversation from every Nomad or Vulcan. Saw two heading out to Rockport Sunday. Very friendly. Just waves and smiles.
I have never had that happen from another Nomad rider, unless he just flat didn't see me. This doesn't sound like your case though. Like you said, sounds like we need one of those Miller type guys to intervene!

I was down in Plymouth, I have had plenty of good encounters with people on all kinds of bikes, even down here on the South Shore, the land of the uptight yuppies.
It takes all kinds I guess!

Hi PatrickM,
Advice only: Never let some bastard's attitude bring you down--particularly if you're not certain of the bastard's intent.
The guy may have been a thousand miles away in his mind: he or a loved one just got some very bad medical news, he lost his job, he found his wife with BD, or Todd, or both, a chick he was hitting on said something about wanting a man "with a real bike," etc.
I generally wave to all bikes, including 49cc scooters, but sometimes my mind is somewhere else. Unless the guy explicitly said that your bike sucked and, btw, so did you, give him a pass.
Imagine how you're going to feel when the TERPS kick Eagle ass this fall. Will you wave to me on my Nomad if I'm wearing my Maryland shirt? (see sig pic)

My experience is everybody loves a Nomad! I never had a bad comment unless it was in jest.

Bob- Don't worry I am not that sensitive, and if Maryland beats BC this year, as unlikely as that is, we are good. And like you I wave to every bike I pass unless I my hand is busy working the clutch, in which case i at least give a nod. And BTW personally I don't care what this guy, or anyone else for that matter, thinks of my bike, I am more than happy with my Nomad, I was just trying to figure out the guy's issue.
But you are right, maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt. Though I think if he was stressing over some issue he would not have bothered to look over at my bike.

I still have yet to see or pass another Nomad rider while I'm riding. Hard to imagine getting that response from another Nomad owner, but I suppose every type of A-hole rides every bike... just more of 'em ride Harleys.

When are you heading up to the White Mts I am gonna be riding up to Dexter ME from the Boston Area on Thursday. Most likely route will be up 93 then banging a right through the White Mt National forest on 112 or 302.
Unless it is raining then I might opt to go straight up 95, not sure I want to do 7 hrs in the rain.

We're heading out of the D.C. area Thursday a.m. and plan on stopping for the night at any random hotel along 93/N.H. border. We will then ride up into the mountains Friday a.m. and plan on hitting the Kancamagus Hwy around noon. It will be my brother and I, he has a red RoadKing and my Nomad is black. If our paths cross give a yell.

Looks like we will miss each other by 24 hrs, but you never know. After Thursday I will be riding 2up on my Black and Red 02.
Have a good trip!!
