My risers are coming in today and I'll be putting them on next weekend with a buddy of mine, unless any of you are close and feel inclined to help. :-/

Any recommendations about handling, comfort, etc.?

08-09-2007, 08:32 PM
Just make sure you cover your tank and front fender before you start with any tools. I love the comfort my phat II risers give me the positioning of the handle bar are great, and I did not have to extend my cables. Cheers and safe riding.

Do you have enough cables with the phat ll on the 1600 Nomad CC???

According to two people here and the mfg, the stock cables are long enough. I checked and there is plenty of play in the cables.

Yep, my cables were long enough on my 1600 '05 Nomad. One good investment as well was the Utopia back rest.

Yes I did Doc, I had to take the clip off that held the from brake cable in place...which is in behind the lower fork tree but that was all. Real easy to install.

How much rise and how much pull back did you guys , and girls, get?

They came back 2 inches approx.

I dont necessarily need the pull back, but I would like the rise to hopefully stop hitting my knees in tight slow turns. Glad to hear that the Phat II's dont require cable changes.

up 2.5, back about 3; dropped bars right in my hands

I plan to go with the Phat II Risers as well. Right now I have dog bone risers on the bike. They do the job but aren't the purtiest in the world. Free is the best price I know of so that's what I have for now. ;)

For those of you who put them on yourselves, how difficult was it and about how long did it take?

08-12-2007, 08:34 PM
I just raised my bars about 2".. just for the heck of it!!!!!!!!! :)

First: GH for you to have done that in 10-15 minutes...you da man!

Phat II risers - $95 on Ebay

New set of metric hex wrenches - $11.78 from Home Depot

Sweat soaked t-shirt and stank eminating from my body - the wife is gonna pay that cost when she smells me.

Putting on your risers in the hot, sweltering garage, taking 2 hours (with eating dinner time and running to Home Depot) to complete the job and having the pride of doing it by yourself - priceless.

For everything else - there's gotta be someone at Mastercard who can put this on quicker than I did. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

You can put on phat 2's and raise your bars 3" and bring them back 2" and not have to get longer cables? Do you have to re-route them. The guy I had do my 650 Yamaha had to re-route by dropping the forks out of the triple clamp.
If you don't have to re-route or take anything apart it sounds as if I could actually do this job myself. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I think I may ride over to Scootworks and see about getting me a set before too long. It's a little less than an hour from my house.

socwkbiker

You don't have to re-route them at all. There's enough play in them that when you sit them on your tank (with 2 towels to prevent scratching) they extend out perfectly.

It's better to use a ratchet then allen wrenches since you need to get into some tight places when installing the new ones. Learned that the hard way.

About an 1/2 hour but first cover your tank and fender with some thick towels,,,,,,, you DONT want any dents. You'll have the choice of center mounts using the exsisting bolts or as i did i use the off set holes with the bolts they sent me. They way the risers are not so close to the speedo. I tried both way and ended up with the off set. Cheers and good luck

Got my Phat ll yesterday and going to install today. Can't wait. Does anybody have a windshield bag with these risers. I have a bag now but might not fit now with new risers??

I've heard some have had issues if your windshield bag is large.

Yeah my buddy added some phat II to his 07 nomad and since i do have long arms it felt like the bars we a little to close for me. Glad i was able to trry it out on his bike first before wasting the money trying to see if it would work for me. I just put a set of phat risers on my wifes bike (06 vulcan 900LT) yesterday and it took like 30 minutes from start to finish. Good luck and let us know how it all turns out.

SOC: Glad that you like them bro.

KAWIgirl: Your a damn lucky women. Only living an hour away from scootworks. sh*t If I lived near there i would be broke. LOLOLOLOL

WOW, what a difference the Phat riser make on EVERYTHING about how you sit on the bike, how it handles and looks diff. it's like sitting in a recliner, its so natural of a position. I would highly rec'd them to anybody especially shorter vertically challenged or short armed folks(which i am neither i will have you know) beuatifull chrome too.

Doc, glad to see you feel the same way I felt the first time I rode with risers. They are well worth the money.

09-01-2007, 12:26 AM
I'm 6'2" and the stock bars feel ok but I do feel like I'm stretching. If my arms were 1" shorter it would be uncomfortable. I wonder if I would benefit from the risers?

09-01-2007, 06:27 AM
Scootworks has a nice shop. They started out in a tight space and expanded a year or so ago. Lots more room to roam around in. They host several events each year too.

GH, how do you like the Aero risers? I am still debating if I should buy them or make a set like your old ones. Give me some feed back please. Hey are yall still coming to MIM in Austin.

Hey BT, I have the same Aeromach risers as GH and it makes a big difference in comfort. I can lean back against the step in the passenger seat and rest against it now. Pricey but I think worth it. The chrome is good quality as well.

Are risers typically for a taller or shorter rider? I'm 5'8" (205/solid muscle)..... broken ribs...

Seriously..... they'd be higher and pulled back? Doesn't seem it would be good for someone my size.... am I el Wrongo???

I had the same problem trapping my legs on turns. I loosened the bars and rotated them up out of the way. I don't need them closer too, so the rotation worked.

Generally shorter and shorter of arm length benefit. I am 6'5 and 27 stone (solid for me would be 17-18 stone). :) My arms are 31" from the arm pits. I don't need no stinking risers. :)

Glad to hear everybody seems to like the Phat risers II. However, I have a 2004 Nomad which apparently require the Phat 1 version. My question: Which is best? Phat 1 risers, Custom world risers (3 inch risers – 7/8 inch pullback) which apparently permit you to keep the KAW stock vibration reducing rubber in the triple tree or the Aeromach risers (2 inch raise and 1.5 inch pulback to stock). Height is not as important to me as pullback. If anyone is satisfied with any of these products or could stear me away from any of the above I would really appreciate it. CHEERS!

Hiya guys, I'm only 5'7" tall and short arms so I did 2 things I got Sherms risers 4 1/2" tall 2" back and I changed handle bar to. Went with Flanders Classic Bend Heritage Style. They seem to be alittle wider and longer. now it feels like a perfect fit. Riser did come with 2' longer SS brake line but I didn't need the extra length.

I think the guy's name is chuckster. He is on the main VROC board and he makes risers that add 2". They are relatively cheap and look nice. Look him up.

Ok, Could anybody send my a picture of the PHAT risers and or of the AEROMATCH risers installed on a Nomad. Presentation is everything and I'd like to have that opportunity if at all possible. Mine is an 2004 but a picture with any year Nomad would be great. Thanks a whole lot for your feedback. Like many, I'm really looking forward to life after risers. However that's a bit like marriage. Once your committed, it's expensive to change your mind...not as expensive but still.
