Heys guys. I will be inactive for a while untill I can move around and type better.
I went that thunder in the cascades bike rally this past weekedn and had a great time... untill the final night.
I was riding around the campgrounds only going about 10-15 mph and another biker was coming at me on the road. It was really just a golfcart path but everyone was using it as a 2 lane bike road. As I went to scoot over, I hit the lip of the road and my back tire went to the dew wet grass. I braked and locked up. The edge of the road went down hill, so the bike almost instantyl went on left side and then I panicked and accidentally gave it throttle. which speed me up and made me high side and get thrown off the other side.
I did a good bit of damage to the bike, but the shop will fix that.
As I was in PA, on private property, moving from one campsite to another, I was not wearing a helmet. I have a silver dollar sized patch of roadrash and missing hair on my scalp and (hopefully only) temporary hearing loss in my right ear from blood buildup behind the ear drum. I broke my left collarbone, ( really sucks seeing as I'm left handed), and have two broken ribs.
When I move I really cant tell whats worse, the ribs or shoulder. they both hurt like hell. I am on good painkillers but then this morning there is stuff on the news about how dangerous this hydracodone is for the liver and they are trying to ban it.
Went to the orthopedic doc today and got another opinion. I actually have 4 broken ribs and my collar bone is fractures in two places and has some splintering. I am going in for surgery tomrrow morning to have screws put in the shoulder bone. I will try and have my wife update on here tomrrow afternonn if I cant do it myself.

That sucks. Heal well. I had shoulder surgery in '07. Collar bone not so bad as when they go in for shoulder surgery as I broke mine in '77. Sleeping is the toughest part. Can't sleep on anything other than my back now bwecause of the healing process requires sleeping on your back.
Hang in there.

That's tuff, sorry to hear that you crashed, but wish you a speady and full recovery. Goes to show why wearing is helmet is always a good idea. It's required in Michigan, but when we cruise down to Ohio the law doesn't require it and a lot of guys will take thiers off. I always leave mine on.
Take care and get better.

Heal up well.
I broke my shoulder and bruised my ribs on a tumble also. The shoulder got the immediate attention. The ribs ended up causing a lot more pain.
I had a road rash on my helmet that would have been a bald spot, too.

Hate to hear of anyone getting hurt! Ribs hurt the most and the longest. Mine still bother me riding more than a couple hours from when I broke them 18 years ago.
Hope you heal up soon!

Take care Sam. I pray that you heal up quickly with no lingering pain. You're young so that shouldn't be a big problem.

sorry to hear about your accident, good luck with the surgery, I'm sure it will all be ok. On a side note, you might want to use a different color font then that purple, it's hard to read against the grey background.

Ouch! The bike is a machine, don't worry about it.
Get off the pills asap. Take only what you need, and only when you need it.
Learn how to roll into and out of bed even if you have to changes sides on the bed.
Get rest, Do NOT use the shoulder or ribs for at least 8 weeks.
Look out for phneumonia! DO not get sick, wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands.
Any cold will be bad enough, coughing, sneezing, will about kill you with pain. Take the pain as best you can.
Do not pull and push anything with either hand.
In 05 I crashed and broke 3 ribs bruised my right ip bone and kept on moving to get from NH to Cal, and then stayed moving.
The ribs never did hear right for it, I caught phneumonia for it and that is because I was breathing very shallow.
When you are able breath in untill it hurts as best you can for atleast 10 deeper breaths.
I didn't really have much choice as I still needed to be movin' and also had to find work so we could eat. I still mechanical things and even cut and split 7 cords of fire wood. It all sucked..
This past Spring I fell with a heavy construction seat for a Bob Cat. This seat is a torsion bar and shock rig at apx 80 pounds. I landed on the soft butt pad part but on the most bottom same rib and it broke. Just coming up on 8 weeks for it, bit this time I really messed up as it is floating an isn't going to heal unless I break it again somehow. That is going to be very hard to do since it floats.
DO not Do what I do!!!! ::) ( I am a fine example of what not to do.)

Sorry about your accident. Hope you're better soon.
Just to add to what macmac said - the reason you want to be sure and take deep breaths is folks with rib fractures want to breath shallow and can land up with pneumonia-I've seen it happen. If you need to cough sneeze brace your chest with a pillow. Take care. Nancy Nurse

Nancy Nurse , LOL AH yuh I learned all about the breathing in my first Royal crash.
Bad mess, but the candy strippers had these breathing machines. The idea was if I breathed in enough things to entertain me would happen. Lights lit up, a barber pole thing would spin, a turbo fan spun, things like that.
During my so called re-covery I found there was another one of these machines not in working order and i asked to look at it out of boredom. I think in all there was 3 but only 2 worked.
So I found out what the problem was and fixed it still in ICU. Of course the candy strippers were pretty, and I managed to get them to 'help' in the tests for the machine i fixed.
I knew the machine was fixed, but I need lots and lots of testing http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif I admired their efforts as must as I admire their way of my new type of entertainment..
Sorry to hear. Nothin to do but heal. Man, those broke ribs do hurt!! I'll pray for your hearing. While you're healing, though, try to spice up the story for when you get to tell it later in the bar. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
