There's a company (www.verticalscope.com) going around buying up motorcycle forums, loading them with advertising and pop-up ads, and changing them to paid membership sites. Riders that previously visited these sites regularly are leaving in droves.

One of the sites that has been bought is Kawiforums.com. This might cause a migration to KawaNOW. Just FYI, in case we get an influx of new members.

Also, to keep any future rumors at bay.....this boy ain't gonna sell KawaNOW.

Hey Trip what about in bogging down this forum? Are you going to be able to keep it from slowing down when loading the pages. Some of the other forums that i am on are soooooooooo slow. I don't know if or what you have to do to make sure it doesn't slow down. I think if you get more people on this forum that would love it. This forum is by far the best on i have ever been on!!!!!! Congrats for having the best forum!!!!!!

They had to upgrade to new servers 3 or 4 times. Does this cost anything?
If it does and YOU have to start charging to keep this site as it is. I would be willing to contribute.

My thanks to all of you for your participation in KawaNOW and for your willingness to collectively fund an upgrade and/or help pay for KawaNOW expenses.

I've known for a while that some of you have been concerned about a possible slow down in response on the system. As a system grows in numbers, there is always a delay in response on your screen. KawaNOW is no exception and I hate to say it, but that just the nature of the usage beast. Unless Proboards decides to migrate to a faster more powerful server, we're pretty well stuck where we are in that area.

The other day, I looked into what it would cost to do an upgrade on our present forum. After doing the research, I feel upgrading would really not be worth it. Here's why:

1. An upgrade on Proboards is more of a "rental" than an actual buy. If I could collect money from everyone and pay a one-time fee to upgrade, I would certainly consider it, but with Proboards, an upgrade means a monthly payment for an upgrade based off of usage. I calculated that it would probably cost about 25.00 to 30.00 dollars a month to upgrade. I figured in current usage and future usage. That would be roughly 30.00 a month, every month. To me, that's not appealing.

2. If we did upgrade, it would only give us two benefits.....the ads on each page would go away and it would afford each member an area to place their pictures for display. The space provided ranges from 5mb to 50mb....but here's the kicker, no pictures above the size of 512K will be allowed to be stored. This means that most of us would have to shrink our pics. I feel that we are better off providing our own respective areas for pic storage at any size we want.

So, there you have it......unless all of you say you're willing to foot the monthly bill, I'm of the opinion that we keep things the way they are.....free.

And to ease any concerns about current costs for KawaNOW....I actually am not spending any money on KawaNOW....just a lot of time. I was able to get a friend of mine to host the website for free and the forum is free. The only expense I have had so far is buying the domain name (www.kawanow.org) and that is only 10.00 bucks a year. I don't loose any sleep over it, so you shouldn't. But thanks for your concern tho. I appreciate the fact that you guys have always been willing to do your part.

In the future, I will always be open to new ideas and change. If, in the future, it is deemed necessary, I will certainly take a look at any changes that would be beneficial for the staff and members. But, for now, I think it's best to stay where we are.

Trip

I agree but it seems the new members don't realize how to resize their pics. You gotta admit it is a real pain to learn after doing it the way they do on other sites.
When we see a new member, or aaahh some of the older members, posting a pic that is to big we should explain the problem to them. my.02

I just hope if it brings in a flurry or two of folks that they are Nomaders. No offense to riders of other brands (I have other brands in my garage too) or even other Kawasaki or Vulcan riders but there are lots of 'no brand' type motorcycle groups out there and this one was created by Trip for the enjoyment and sharing of info for Nomad enthusiast. For example when I want to talk Guzzis I go to the WildGuzzi site etc....Just my $.02 worth.
