I just read on the Delphi Vulcan forum that VROC Donna's Green-Green Nomad burned in a gas station. She was headed to the VROC gathering and had suspected a coolant leak and was on the phone with Sam when it went up.
The station people tried to put it out but their extinguishers wouldn't work. The local fire marshal was driving by and stooped to help. Looks like the bike is a total loss.
Fortunately, Donna is OK.

Glad she was not injured.
I had a fuel pump on my 99' that leaked and was dumping fuel on the cylinders; glad I didn't end up like this.

WOW http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif, Poor nomad glad she's ok, was it from fueling up that ignited or a leak? Scary

What on earth would cause that?!!! It is a wonder that the gas pumps didn't blow-up as well.
Glad she was okay.

I can only imagine how bad it would feel to have to stand there and watch your bike burn.
My condolences to Donna.

My best guess is static electricity sparking with the cap open. A static spark gets a lot of cars in that same situation, parked at the pumps.
Always touch your car/bike's metal exterior prior to filling up.

As you can see by the pictures I would NOT be arriving at the Rally on
the Nomad. About 11am and 52 miles from home I stopped to get gas (wasn't
full when I started). Got gas, went inside to pee, get a drink, check cell
phone and blackberry. Inside about 10-15 minutes. Came back out, cranked
up and smoke starting coming out from under the gas tank and speedometer.
Turned off bike, got off and found antifreeze leaking out under the bike
too. Call my bike shop, just up the road "luckily" and got them on the
phone while I went back into convenience store to get them to call the fire
dept.
In about five minute it will pretty engulfed as you can see by the pic and
then there is the after picture.
At home, talk to insurance, bike getting picked up by bike shop and stuff
loaded in car and I'm outta here AGAIN!!!!!!!!
This was her comment before heading back out to the rally.

Just glad she wasn't on it when it all happened. Count our blessings. Material things can always be replaced. Next time anyone sees smoke coming from their bike they should call 911 first. Those fireman are always looking for a good reason to go code to a call. I think anything that looks like it could start on fire next to a gas pump justifies a 911 call. Glad no one got hurt.

I just returned home from the Kentucky gathering and she is fine, but the bike is a total loss. From what I have heard from people talking is that it could have been a leak in the gas line or some wire under the tank. Blondie was there and she is ok. Thank God ! Now she will be out shopping for a new bike
Is that a heel rest I see on her highway pegs? Have seen that before, either.

Donna also mentioned that out of 4 fire extinguishers, NONE of them worked!
The Fire marshal will be burning a new one to the owner of the station for that mistake!!!.
The insurance company caller her at the rally and said the bike WAS totaled... DUH!!??
A friend of hers just lost their mother the day before and Donna said that the bike burning , at the time just wasn't that big of deal.
We were all telling her she just HAS to find another G/G Nomad! Hope she finds one.......... :'(

Glad she is OK.
Does anyone know if she had recent work on her bike.....maybe had to pull the fuel tank and maybe all the hoses weren't connected properly? Fuel leaking on the hot engine would not be good.

Donna Was 50-55 miles from her home, on the way to the west Va.rally when it happened.
She fueled up the bike, went inside to pay, went back out to the bike to get something and noticed a "popping" sound, but didn't think anything of it. Went back inside to wash her hands, then went back outside to see her bike in flames.
There wasn't one single fire extinguisher in the place that worked!!
The fire marshal fined the station for not having any extinguishers..... that really helped with the bike, didn't it!!
She didn't say if the owner of the station was... a .. "dot" head of not.....
Those are the cheapest people I have ever seen.....
But on the good side, she bought a newer Nomad.. the green and silver one.
She got a trunk from Piper, already painted to match her new bike and I sent her a rack to put it on.
