http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>Today I was almost run over. I was in slow traffic and this #&%?@ black woman was beside me (WITH HER WINDOW DOWN) and just started easing over on me and I was slightly ahead of her so it was no problem seeing me. She was looking at me in the eyes and was still coming. I held the stebil horn till it hurt my ears but she never flinched and kept coming over (almost slow motion and no sudden movement). She was close enough I could reach over and slap her face. I finally had to do something so I yelled a few bad words at her drove off the road till I got away from her. I guess she was drunk, drugged up or just amazed from seeing a Nomad. Bad thing is in that situation there's just not much you can do but try to get away from the idiots. Lucky again!

I had the same thing last year. Woman in an SUV started to cross the line into my lane on a one way street. I blasted the stebel and she heard it and moved back, then when she looked and spotted me on the Nomad she did it again. I blasted the Stebel again but she did not give in. She was going to run over me unless I got out of her way. I did. I was so pissed off it was not funny. I wanted to follow her to her destination but knew that no good would come from it so I peeled off at the next intersection and cooled down. Grrrrrrrr.

Happened to me this last Fri...
Two lanes turning left I'm in right lane and leave the light with a mini van. About half way through the turn she is gliding into my lane completely oblivious to the world. I had to slam on my brakes and suck up next to the curb with my horn blaring. I felt obligated to let her know that she should pay attention when driving with a couple of cleverly placed F words. I get about 2 or 3 car lengths away from her and she starts rapping her horn at me. I turned around saluted her and created some distance between us.
You people are great but in general people suck!
Glad you made it out unscathed!

Glad you weren't hurt by her ignorance!
I know how tempting it is to go off on these idiot drivers, believe me, I do it in my car. However, on my bike I try to avoid road rage.....it's hard to do, but I figure that I don't stand a chance up against a larger vehicle.

I wonder what her reaction would have been if you put a .45 to her head?

The Road Rage tag is one thing that keeps me from running these idiots to ground. Around here you can get cited for road rage and it all depends on who says what and what the officer hears.

As tempting as it is to go off on someone on 4 wheels we have to restrain ourselves if we want to keep on living. We can't win on 2 wheels. Now if everybody stops and dismounts that's another story. The odds even up somewhat after we're all on our feet.

Glad you're OK tho Zoom........several years ago, a friend of mine and I were coming back from a trip to the Texas Hill Country. We were riding through Cedar Park, Texas. We were coming to a stop at a red light in traffic when an SUV came up quickly from our right side and wanted in our lane. He just started moving over and bumped the friend of mine in front of me.

My friend got mad and kicked his left fender. That, in turn, got the driver mad and he turned left, gunned it and knocked my friend on his ass. Then he took off to the right and went down a street to try and get away.

I quickly saw that my friend was OK even though he was on the pavement. He yelled at me to get the SOB, so I took off and caught up with him about 2 miles down the road. I got his license plate number, came back and talked to the police.

Other than some scratches, my friend's bike was OK. The police never did anything to the guy. He got away scott free.

Zoom....was she also in a mini van? I swear that 75% of my "close calls" are women in mini vans....they scare the h*ll out of me. No offense to the other women in the world but the stats don't lie.

Glad you are OK...and be careful when reacting to the idiots on 4 wheels...you are at a real disadvantage.

Some people keep pea grave, marbles or ball bearings in their handle bar bags to accidentally release at opportune times.
Especially good for tailgaters.

I have a friend who had a small windshield washer reservoir and motor in his tour pack with the squirt nozzle on the top. He kept a thinned out solution of oil in it. And if he had a problem of different sorts, such as tailgaters, or things such as "zoom" had happen to him, he'd get in front of them {if he wasn't already} and give them a little squirt that would no doubt find it's way onto their windshield. They would immediately turn the wipers on to have a nice smearing mess. My friend would be long gone. I guess it would have caused a hazzard for other people driving near by if the guy couldn't see very well but......anyway he was only a kid, by todays standards. He's now 50ish and all "grow'd up". .........NOT http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

Almost everytime I wish I had a louder horn to protect my lane, I realize had I put away my ego and just hit the brakes instead, I would have come away less stressed and not had such a close call. I keep hearing my driver ed teacher 30 years ago yelling "no sense in dying to show the other guy you had the right of way". I try to drive with my safety in mind and not worry so much about showing the idiot that they cut me off. Doesn't work all the time but....

Zoom,

I really glad you're okay, and made it out of there to tell about it. Same thing happens around here all the time, especially on the I-95 corridor, which I ride everyday. Those experiences always scare the crap out of you, and they just shouldn't happen.

Question for you though: Was the fact that she was a "#&%?@ black woman" somehow make it worse? Or does that really matter?

No color doesn't make a difference at all. If you drive in any of the cities around here that's the majority of the population you see. Most of my bad encounters just happens to be in the cities. I rarely have an issue out of the city limits. Outside the city, it's usually a #&%?@ skinny white girl on a cell phone or sending a text message. And no I don't have anything against skinny white girls either. I love em all.

I know we have all had similar type situations occur and as said prior, my biggest problem is holding my temper. More often than not you have to take evasive actions which can lead to damage to your bike while they drive off undeterred. This thread is raising my blood pressure just reading it. http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>

Glad your OK as many have said. But that's why we drive like someone wants to hit us. Louder horns are great but we always have to drive like the other person was deaf, if not ignorant or in another world.

In my close calls my horn didn't save me, my driving did.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Here's to all the close calls that we survive. Bottoms up. Or is it shiny side up.

I consider any and all cagers, no matter if they are motorcyclists or not, as a potential idiot. As much as I would enjoy a good road joust, doing so on a bike is a no win situation. I just let it go and let karma take care of itself.

Always ride as if you are invisible!

I did get the opportunity to use my Stebel horn for the first time this past weekend. While riding down my mother's small street, a dog ran out into the street and started barking furiously at me while the brainless owner looked on. A quick blast of my Stebel had the dog retreating with a puzzled look. After pulling into Mom's driveway and dismounting, I made a point to let the owner know of my displeasure that she allowed her dog to run wild in the street. She muttered a third-grade response about not being able to control her dog and went inside.

The following day I was again approaching Mom's house when the same dog again came running into the street and again barked furiously at the bike and was again promptly greeted by my Stebel from which the dog again retreated. This time Ms Bumpus was not there to "control" her hound.

By the third day, however, instead of greeting me in the street, little Fido stayed in its yard, sufficed to only watch me ride by. Saved by my Stebel at last.

Pavlov vindicated!

Glad to hear you made past the cager I always drive as if they don't see me I have had several red light talks with people like this most say I am sorry and some just don't give a sh*t. I had and off duty cop one time and he acted as if I should have let him run me off the road because he was in uniform he got the same talk I give the rest of the morons, be safe and watch them all.

I've had people try to push me out of my lane when I was at 10:00 or 2:00 in their view, so I know they could see me. I believe that some people simply don't care; especially when they gradually ease over in my lane to let me know they are coming. Some people act as if they are angry because I'm on a bike...do I remind them of someone or something? Many motorists are piggish when I'm in my car, but not with the same indignation as when I'm on my steed. And I try to drive decently (according to the rules). Of course, many motorists seem to do fine; however, when I mount my bike, all who drive on four wheels become instant idiots in my mind; I realize this is not true of all, but it keeps me in a defensive, alert frame of mind.

There is no horn that cures stoopid, and many people are just not qualified to operate a motor vehicle. Since a drivers license is so easy to acquire, we are stuck didging morons. The only cure I see is making drivers licenses tougher to get, like England for instance.

I've had my fill of issues with folks wanting the space I was occupying and I have to say I used to get VERY aggressive with those idiot drivers. Then, as some of you know, I was involved in an accident that almost killed me.
I've changed the attitude I carry around with me on the bike. Someone said it earlier, getting killed/hurt to prove whose right doesn't make sense. I always look well ahead and look for possible situations that could start forming in front of me and take action at that time not when things are going wrong around me.

By the way, the color of a persons skin makes no difference when you're on the ground. Stupity is color blind and I hope this web site is too. I know you didn't mean anything by the added description but I'm always afraid a comment like that can start a downward slide.

sorry for the soap box. stay safe
