View Full Version : I did it!!
I went up to Gatlinburg last week for a week riding in the hills. Well... the weather could have been better, but at least we had a full day of sun so that we could ride down to Deal's Gap and ride the Tail of the Dragon.
That is a very intense ride!

Congrats on the ride Michael. Did you ride up there as well? Beautiful area to ride in.
Stop in the Southeastern Region board some time and see what is going on down in these parts.

is an awesome ride all around up there....did ya get the t-shirt?? :)
Congratulations!! That's one I hope to take some day soon. One down, many, many more to go. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif
:) I didn't get the t-shirt, but I got the sticker and a patch for my vest.
It was also a beautiful 50 mile ride from Gatlinburg and back.
I think the Nomad is a tad big for this ride. A smaller bike would be more nimble on all those curves... but the Nomad rode soooo smooth!

Congrats on getting the chance to ride the Dragon. I agree that the Nomad is alittle big to ride it and a smaller more nimble bike would be better on all those curves.
I still enjoyed it when I was there.

Now you have to come over this way, to near the Bristol MotorSpeedway, and get on TN34. That is called the snake and goes to Mountain City. It makes the tail a bigginners ride! I have done both multiple times on my mad, with passenger. The secret to success is ofcourse obeying the speed limit. You will see more and enjoy it without mishap..
Glad you liked it Michael. It's an experience, isn't it? I loved it when I slayed the dragon three times a couple of years ago. Now all you need to do is ride the Black Hills of South Dakota and the Texas Hill Country and your training will be complete. Congrats on completing the 11 mile, 318 curve course. Everybody should try it at least once.

Glad to see you had a good time. It was great on the Southeastern Region Rally to Helen.
Once you ride the Nomad a few times on roads like that you will feel it get more nimble.
Visit our board, we're having a get together this weekend in Clearwater. Your welcome to come over and join us.
Congrats! I am taking 5 days this weekend to ride the Dragon! I cant wait!
I rode The Tail in '02 with my '02 Honda 750 V Twin(with my wife on the back) and it sure was fun. Take a look at your rear tire and see how far the wear is on the sides of your tire. That will show you how far you were leaning over in the curves.

Watch for the sand that washes down from the hills. No guard rails and lots of trees.
