Badge removal

Yea another badge removal ? What have you found is best to remove the glue from the side covers??? I tried the search box but no luck yet!!! Ill be painting the trunk and covers this week,,,,,,,Thanks Rich

Method 1: Use a blow dryer to heat the badge and soften the adhesive then peel it off.
Method 2: Use nylon monofilament fishing line or dental floss, work it under the badge and use a sawing motion as you pull the line to the other end, it separates the badge from the body work.

Use Goof-Off or Goo-Be-Gone to remove any residual adhesive.

I warmed the badge with a blow dryer. The fishing line was to slow and aggravating for me so I gently slid my drivers license under the badge and pried the badge off with a screw driver keeping the blade of the screw driver in contact with the license. Of course don't let the screw driver touch the tank. I used WD-40 and the license to remove the adhesive. That took a little work.

It looked so good without the badges and a few people thought I had gotten another bike. It's the most beautiful tank ever put on a motorcycle and I thought it was a shame to cover such a masterpiece.

Any suggestions for getting those yellow "Caution" stickers off off the tops of the saddle bags? I've tried all the above methods and even the plastic razor-blade with no luck. I can't get it to lift at all.

mikey, I used the hair dryer method for all the caution stickers and it worked well. You have to let the sticker get pretty warm to loosen the adhesive. I took mine off as soon as I got the bike new, so I don't know if ones that have been on for a while are tougher or not.

I used the hair dryer method as well.....when the bike was 5 years old...no problem.

It must be the AZ heat, but I took all the stickers off my bike when I brought it home and they all just peeled right off. I have not debadged the tank and don't plan to, but the side cover sticker and all the warning/information stickers came right off. Not even much residue.
I did not use a hair dryer or fishing line or anything, except my fingers.

About 15 minutes in the Las Vegas sun and I peeled the saddle bag stickers off with my fingernail. A paper towel dipped in the gas tank took off all of the goo. The tank stickers are next.

Be really careful with the alcohol on the plastic. The top of my hardbag is a testament that hand cleaner/sanitizer and plastic don't mix. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

If I read your thread right, you just need to get the glue off. The best thing I have found through a friend is WD40. Spray some on a soft rag and rub gently. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif(Pervert) Don't get to excited with the rubbing and it will come off easy.

as an x auto collision repairman the best glue remover bar none is 3m adhesive remover. it will not damage the paint in any way. you can purchase it wherever auto body repair stuff is sold. like car quest,napa......

As info the bag stickers are two thick. peel the top layer sticker off, then use the hair dryer on the sticker under it.

+1 on the WD40 or if you use a zipo lighter, I use "Ronsonol" lighter fluid, that is great for this. States right on the container: "Excellent for removal of labels, tar, grease, oil and stains". A little on your wife's makeup remover pads goes a long way in getting rid of the sticky stuff.
