Have any of you experienced overfilling the oil when doing any oil change. If you follow the specs on a oil change when removing the filter it states that you should add 3.1 litres of fresh oil but this overfills the crank according to the sight-glass. If you want to use the sight glass as your indicator then it probably only takes about 2.5 litres of oil. Does not seem like enough. Any body else with this issue? Any comment?

Thanks
Al

When I change our oil I dump 3 quarts in and then level the bike using my pancake jack. I then add more oil as needed to the correct site glass level. I use the Super Tech oil filter so it normally takes around 3.3 qts.

Same here about 3.3-3.5 qts, have added a bit more without any harmfull effects. Bike must be level to read sight glass accurately.

Don't forget to start the engine and let it run long enough to fill the new oil filter. Then let it sit a while before topping it up to full.

There are actually 2 drain plus on these bikes and if you are not removing both plugs you may not be draining all the oil out. On the shifter side of the pan is a drain plug and it also houses the transmission screen filter.

Do all you Gents all drain both plugs. Do you get that much more drainage from the side plug?

Actually, just use the drain plug on the side. Don't even bother with the one on the bottom of the pan. You definitely get more out and you can also clean the screen at the same time. Just be sure to watch which way the screen is when you take it out and put it back in the same way. Don't overtighten the side plug as it's fairly soft aluminum. Just snug it up good.
