I had put together a ride for gator joes on the 17th over on the “Delphi Vulcan Riders” forum and some of you from here were planning on attending also. One of the guys from the other forum was going to be traveling in that area today on his bike and said the love bugs were terrible. Here’s an exact quote from his post…..

“Well I didn't make it to Gator Joe's or Ocala today. They have a pretty good size fire supposedly right on CR25 with lots of smoke. But thats not what kept me from getting there,,hell I didn't even know about the fire at the time. It was them damn LoveBugs that made me turn around! I was just about to go over the river in Deland and I had enough. My sunglasses were covered, my legs, shirt and face was all smeared in the "lovejuice" of the bug smatter. “

What I’m wondering is how bad are the love bugs out that way and traveling through the Ocala national forest? Do any of you live out that way that might be able to give some feedback? I was also just talking to another friend of mine and he said his brother who left here to head home in Oveida today, called him and was also talking about how bad the lovebugs were, that he had to stop cause he couldn’t see out his windshield (car).
Anyway, I’m just trying to figure out how bad they really are right now and if they are that bad should we keep the trip scheduled or should we reschedule it for another time?

I haven't really run in to much of them yet over this way, but I'm west of there. We went up to Alaucha to Conestoga on Saturday and had a few on the bike when we got back. We are going to St. Augustine on Saturday and then over to Gator Joe's on Sunday, so I will know on Saturday but that will be too late for you to cancel. Sorry not much help Taz.

We are starting to see them down here. I hit a couple of hundred this sunday.
Try to leave early before the massive heat really gets them out.
Here is a tip; 2 to 3 coats of wax on the front of the bike from fork legs to top of windshield. Wax everything.
Cleaning tip too! ;) Put your garden hose squrit nozzle on "mist". Wet the bike and put a pair of womens stockings in your soapy water. Keep using mist spray and rub with the stockings and they come right off! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif

I saw one this morning on the way to work. I was sitting at a light and one flew in the window, yes I was in my car :-/.

It's about to begin... Bring a can of plexus or Honda spray where ever you go for awhile.

I don't mind if you hijack the topic.

Let's hear about your experience....

I got some stuff (from Walmart) called Rain Clear, a rain repellent gel. It claims to repel rain, sleet, snow, frost, salt, mud, bugs, and grime. I've used it before on my windshield and it seemed to work pretty well, not that we have too much sleet, snow or frost here!

Never tried it thru lovebug season, tho.

I'll put some on the front end today, just in case I run into any.

Sorry for the hijack...I will not do that again,...or at least until I feel like it again.

well, the same guy that made the initial report about running into the lovebugs drove back through that area today in his truck and said he only had about 15 of them on his windshield. So maybe it won't be that big of a deal after all.

don't let the bugs stop the ride! Get a bug cleaning sponge at $ general for a buck. Keep it wet and in a zip lock. Every gas stop - wipe her down and dry off. By the time you're home you'll have a minimum of cleaning to do and almost no cost.

I keep a can of the Walmart brand of " Lemon Pledge" (99 cents) and clean as I go. The stuff works wonders..

I know some people have sprayed Pam on the fenders, crash bars and anything other than the windshield that normally gets slammed with bugs.

I just wait until I get home... spray the bike with some Simple Green then take out the little pressure cleaner and remove them in seconds.

This past weekend seems to be a little worse. The truck was full of them after we left the restaurant.

Haven't seen any lately. If they are gone, this was a pretty quiet season.
