I've had a set of these on the bike for just about 3,000 miles now. The other day I was giving the bike a once-over and felt the back tire - I was NOT pleased!

The damn thing has a flat spot right down the middle of the tire. http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/> I have been religious in checking my pressure - 41 psi front and back. Can't honestly remember what the tire says it should be, but I'm sure it was either 40 or 45. ???

I know Texas is flat, and I do quite a bit of slabbin', but damn! Already? There still appears to be plenty of tread left, but I'm concerned how it's going to feel in another 6,000 miles when transitioning into a curve. http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>

Anyone else with some mileage on the Cobra rear tire notice this?

I've got 4,000-5,000 on mine. I'll take a look and see if I notice a flat spot.

Thanks for the tip. I just put mine on and will be taking a 1,500 mile ride to Tennessee pulling the trailer in a couple of weeks. I'll keep a close eye on it. If there is a problem it should surely be evident by the time I get back from Custer. Is most of your riding on straight highways or do you do some riding on twisties?

That's the first negative post I've ever seen on Cobras.

The percentage of good reports still isn't bad at all.

Sorry the first guy had to be you!

My riding is about 50/50. Think of it as slabbin' it out to the twisty back roads. I put anywhere between 200-300 miles on at a ride. Like I said, there is still plenty of tread left in the middle of the tire, but I wasn't expecting the center to be worn down so much.. maybe after 5,000 miles, but not 2800. I can easily see and feel the worn area. I was thinking it might be tire pressure, but I'm at 41 psi and maintain that pretty much all the time. Could be the roads out here, which are cement slab and regular pavement.

I'm gonna be pissed if I only get 7-8,000 out of these before the back needs replacement. Can you say "Car Tire"? http://s2.images.proboards.com/angry.gif:(" title=">:(" border="0"/>

Maybe I just need to get my fat ass on a diet... http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

I'm not necessarily displeased with the Cobras.... yet.

i find i have to run up to 50psi on my cobras to keep them from wearing badly. i started at 40psi and found the were scolloping on the sides. the rise in pressure really helps. btw the tyre reccomends this pressure on the side wall.

A guy on the Delphi forum is on his second rear Cobra. He got 9,000 on the first and the cords were showing. His second Cobra has 6,000 miles and he figures it is going to be done around the same mileage as the first.

I've only got about 200 miles on my cobras. I'll have to check the pressure.

I will be checking mine as well.

50 ??? Seriously? Man, I gotta go look again when I get home. Thanks for the tip.

No scalloping on mine at all, but that flat spot is buggin' the hell outta me.

I'm tellin' ya! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

If I'm gonna have a flat spot, I'm getting 30,000 miles out of it! hehehehe

Hmmmm, just like the top of Todds head.

I have 3000 on mine and checked them today, no flat spots, heck they dont even look like they have worn any.

Question? If they are wearing out in the center, isnt that due to to high of air pressure.

that was my thought and as far as air pressure it looks like 41 to me

I was told by the guy that mounted my Cobras to keep 40 in the front and 42 in the rear.

They dont have the 1600 listed in the Avon Tyre fitment guide, but for the 2000 LT they show 36 front and 42 rear. One other thing, if you are using the same gauge to check your pressures, you may want to try another one. Just dropping the pencil type on the ground and cause it to be off. So who knows, you might have a issue there.

I have the type with the analog dial-type gauge on it. Came with my air compressor. Can't say whether it's accurate or not, but when I brought the bike home I checked the pressure and it was 42-ish. So I haven't lost but a pound.

Nobody else huh? Hmm... Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers... who has better food? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

42 psig was what was recommended by the guy that mounted mine. I sent a note to Avon technical asking what they recommend on mine with the loaded weight and pulling a trailer.

Im surprised any tire would need 50 psi to work correctly. i think most are about 40-42 psi. I have only about 300 miles on my Cobras so no long range comments yet. Doesn't every tire wear more in the middle? look at all worn out tires on the rear. They are thin in the middle and still have tread on the sides. if you rode twistys 100% of the time, you might wear it off even. Even if Cobras only last 10,000 miles, they are still way better than stones. if I only get 6-8,000 something is wrong. I might be going Darkside then, :-)

I sent a note yesterday to Avon Technical Support telling them what the approximate weight of my bike is riding 2 up with luggage and pulling my trailer. They replied stating I should carry 50 psig in the rear and 44 in the front on the trips pulling the trailer. I didn't ask about normal riding with no added luggage but I would assume 46 psig would be fine for the rear and 40 for the front.
