Swing Arm Serviced

I had my swing arm serviced and it was almost dry. I have an 05 Nomad and only 6500 miles on the odometer. Iam glad I followed others suggestions from this site and had it checked. Also installed a grease fitting on swing arm and on front steering bearing. The info on this site and the members help is the greatest. Rooster 1 http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I just serviced my 07 swingarm at 8700 miles. Everything had plenty of grease and virtually no swingarm play. I added some more grease but I did not put in a fitting. I guess I got some piece of mind but boy was that a lot of work.

I just had tires put on at the honda dealer that I bought the wife's bike from. I asked about the swingarm being greased and the service guy said they don't see swingarms that are worn out from lack of grease. I thought either they didn't want to be bothered or were to busy to do it :-/
would that be something that would be under warranty?

Its seems to be one of those areas that it depends on who assembled the bike that particular day. With some guys reporting that their bikes were lacking grease. a lot also say that there was plenty of grease applied during assembly, as was my case. I guess its best to check and see for yourself.

I did my own swing arm, plenty of grease. I didn't put in a grease fitting, there is no way I could tell that the grease would ever get to the outter spacers, even putting a slot in the center spacer doesn't get grease to where the finger bearings are. Besides I thought how can grease come out or dirt or water in it is so sealed tightly. Also If I squirt more grease in the fitting I could ruin the bearings or seal from too much pressure.
I talked to owners of several other MC manufactures and they are not required to grease the finger bearings, why on a Nomad. It will probably be a long time before that job is done again.

Ima guessin that Honda Dealer didn't want to do the job! I'm sorry but - "bearings need grease"!!!! Mine had rust starting and that was only at 31,000 km. Water will migrate past any seal - it just is a matter of when! Smart money gets the rear serviced and then doesn't worry about it!

I asked my kawa dealer how much $$ to lube the swing arm, etc and he said we dont lube many because they are well lubed from the factory and hardly need more.

Had my swingarm serviced today along with the drive shaft. The mechanic who did the job told me both had abundant grease from the dealership assembly but he cleaned everything up and put new grease. This was done while mounting my new rear tire. Motorcycle Specialties in Houma, LA did the work. It is an independent motorcycle and ATV service center that's been in business for 25 years. Dealer will only do warranty work.
